My bullshit detector had absolutely zero lag when I started reading this
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2096335262/zhero-rear-bicycle-hub-zero-lagFrom the description, it seems that they want AU$155,000 to start making Shimano Silent Clutch freehubs

What's the benefit? Is it similar 'result' to trials hubs with loads of engagement?
Will it make me any faster? If so, where can I get one? :)
-

That's so cool! I always felt the problem when an uphill section comes, the lag is so bad that until the hub locks I am already past the section and already going back downhill.
Sometimes my sprints come back to haunt my in my dreams, so bad is the lag. -

What's the benefit?
There isn't one. Fast engagement is good for trials, where gearing is about 1:1 and wasted movement can actually affect your move, but for everybody else it's not necessary.

Figured as much.. otherwise I'd already be using a 1000 pawl freehub. :)

If you're sprinting on 53/11, 10° at the freehub is 2° at the crank. Since the only reason to freewheel in the last km is to get around a corner, with the cranks vertical, any lag is going to happen during a crank phase where you'd be applying very little power anyway. It might even be good to have more lag, so that you can get your crank into a high torque position without resistance :-)

This sucks, i was ready to spill all the money for 20% of the company. I'm out!
Btw I wouldn't trust the guy in the vid to make me a sandwich. Oh pardon, he's just a Robbie McEwen -

Don't forget polo, I like all the engagements for polo.

Don't forget polo
I always forget polo, and plan to continue so doing.

Polo.... Tester does not approve.

If this could be refilled with a track pump at home, that'd be cool. Disposable cartridges are dumb.
-
• #715
Its massive though.
Carrying a big bottle of air on a ride seems a bit weird to me.
Then again I've never understood the need for CO2 cartridges. If you arent racing, just pump them up With a micro pump. If it cuts CO2 cartridge sales then it'd be a good thing. Yes.

All good points.

• #717
Ditch the CO2, carry nitrous cartridges instead. Loads more potential for fun.

Not completely bike related but thought the claim of these guys reinventing the wheel are complete BS.

What's the advantage?

Did we have this stuff yet? Seatylock

Fortunately, these people are not actually reinventing the wheel, they're just using fucking magnets to attach your fairings

Magnets eh? How do they work?
I want to see one of them descending at 80kph and hitting a pothole. Not sure their car park test cuts it for me.
-
• #724
Did you not see the testing they did? He went up a grass embankment.
But seriously, they seem pretty decent, depending on how well they stay on. They are certainly identifying a real issue and their idea isn't too bad.
Weight doesn't even seem too bad, though i don't really know much about it. This struck me as impressive though I'm aware they may have chosen some of the heavier wheels for the comparison. For comparison's sake, our 90mm wheels are within 20 grams of the shallower Zipp 808 Firecrest, and our disc wheel is nearly 150 grams lighter than a Zipp Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc.
