Mid-range inkjets are actually quite good these days but paper is the real variable. If you're doing black and white then you might want a printer with matte black and grey cartridges as well as the usual CMYK.
I just get c-types from print space though.

any of you guys print your digi stuff? If so, what/who do you use?
I use an online printing service, send them high-res files, and they print them pretty nicely.
If I had a proper printer I might use this, though I've had more than enough faff with these fucking ink catridges etc. - it's actually cheaper to let them print it, also they do have some very nice paper..
