Sheffield/Rotherham ride?

Posted on
  • Just wanted to know if there was anyone on this forum from the Sheffield/Rotherham area that wanted to organise a ride..

    Andy.

  • I suppose I could.

What sort of ride are you looking for?
    Fixed?
    Geared?
    Road?
    Trails?
    Mountain Bike?
    Fast?
    Slow?
    Peak District?
    Coast?
    City based pub crawl?
    Themed?

  • Just a cruise in the city

  • I'll have a think about it. In the meantime, I'm looking at exploiting the Snake Pass closure. Do you fancy an evening ride on a virtually traffic free A-road?

  • I'm going to Sheffield for the documentary festival June 5-10th, and was planning on riding across the Peaks to Manchester afterwards. That work for anyone?

  • Did this once before when picking up a bike from someone in late autumn - stopped off at JE James to buy some panniers, but didn't get out of the city til 5pm. The Peaks at dusk were stunning, but climbing Mam Tor in the pitch dark with a waning front torch was definitely pretty sketchy. Would love to do it again in good weather / during the daytime

  • Liking the sound of the closed Snake pass ride.

  • So how about Wednesday 10/06/15, set off from Wellington Street around 6pm, head up Cemetary Road, Psalter Lane, over Ringinglow and under Stannage Edge to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn and pick up the A57 at Ladybower. Chips and beer in Glossop of we can get that far and head back keeping an eye on last orders as we pass the Snake Inn, Ladybower Inn and Strines Inn.

Weather dependent because with it being closed for two weeks it would seem silly to head out in the pouring rain.

Geeb, I understand that the works are all happening on the Glossop side so, if the worst comes to it, and you can't get past you could feasibly ride/push down the Doctor's Gate bridle path into Glossop. Shouldn't take too long.
