  • @photoben Dropped the D700. Broke the D700. Sadness reigns.

    @thross That dedication! Awesome stuff.

  • Dropped the D700.

    Ah, shit..

    But what do you mean, you "dropped" it?

    Sorry, not trying to be a smart arse - it's really just that I was thinking about a fellow photographer here in Berlin again yesterday, who always shakes his head and tells me to "please get a camera strap - what if you drop it ?!".
    I get that straps are comfortable with heavy cameras, but can't stand the thing dangling on my side - also, when it's crowded, people bump on the lens all the time - so I either have the thing in my hand, or in the bag.

    My point / question being - you don't need a strap "for safety", as nobody's just "dropping" cameras (and even if you had a strap, if you dropped it while holding it in your hand / shooting, it will not help you much, if you didn't put it around your neck like a tourist)... so what did you do?

  • and even if you had a strap, if you dropped it while holding it in your hand / shooting, it will >not help you much ...

    I wrap my strap around my hand and carry the camera. It goes over my shoulder in crowds. It gets bashed about but it doesn't get dropped.
