My car, after ~10 miles of stop/start traffic, on a hot day, with the aircon running, whilst at idle, stops.
It won't restart for 10-20 minutes, but once it's cooled down it fires up as if nothing has happened.
It doesn't show any codes/store any codes, throw a check-engine-light
My theory was that it was the crank position sensor, so I changed it.
Having cleaned the old one up I tested the resistance across the pins and got 294 Ohms, which is annoyingly bang on the range for a good unit - 200 to 500 being said range.
I boiled a mug of water and dropped the sensor in that, resistance jumped to 360 Ohms at ~80 degrees.
So - resistance is rising as temperature increases, but not beyond the "good" range.
How hot is the crank position sensor likely to get? It's on top of the gearbox bell housing, right against the engine.
I really, really don't want this issue to continue - nightmare scenario is the engine cutting out in heavy stop-start traffic on the motorway, in the fast lane, so I want to make sure I have identified the responsible sensor/component/etc.
FWIW after I swapped the CPS and the coil the car fired up immediately and idled happily.
