is it the all black one?
-

Yea all black, a few years old now.
Carbon has some marks, but I don't think dad ever crashed it, only stacked it a couple times.
Dropout on nds can't be swapped so deffo cannot make a 'real' fixed conversion.
Can hear some vibration, from an inner cable against the frame I think, checked headset and eyed up all other things. Rides okay apart from vibration noise.
Stem isn't slammed yet.

nice, why dont you convert it to fixed and try and find the 'magic gear'?

Here it is as-rescued.
So far I've only taken off the PD-Century tri bars and a horrible steerer extender (don't ask), and got it from Swindon to London.
Removed and cleaned the rear derailleur before I left, and kept the cable tight, but it is dropping gears on its own. Maybe got the tension wrong.
Front brake is on super-tight, cannot get the bolt to undo, will buy some penetrating spray and take it slow. QR adjuster on brake is seized on front brake too, probably better to replace completely than try service - it wouldn't dismantle with generous GT85 and allen keys yesterday.
Have pm'd someone on here selling the Mavic bullhorns, but if anyone else has a good set of bars to make this pursuit-y I'm all ears. I can't afford super aero fatty carbon things right now.
Thinking for now at least, the Mavic style horns, with the straight Vision TT bars and bar end shifters. Get the STI's off and then work from there.
It would be a sweet fixed ride I think, but uncertain if I want to swap all out for now, tempted to try out a geared setup.
That said, kinda want it to be on HHV.
I want to keep this thing...
Tempted to cut the ITM Millenium drop bars into bullhorns, but seems a waste of a fair set of drop bars.

Not your everyday left-in-a-shed machine. Looks mint, subbed!

Thanks.
Really really need to source some bullhorns asap, unless anyone has a better idea. Wouldn't mind some super flat tt base with the vision bars on, but I've not seen any in smaller clamp size.
Should be concentrating on impending deadlines, so may be slow to sort.
@JT still tempted to leave as geared, will try out with bar end shifters and stuff, and if I can't get on with it, probably go fixed or at least SS.
Cut down some ratty cinelli bars laying about, and quite like the super short bullhorn thing, but got my heart set on some 'real' bars. Will dismantle and try to clean/lube the headset soon, and see if it just needs a CLA or replacing. Would be nice to have some sealed bearings and silky smooth turning once it's slammed.

Quick update.
Took the bike down to a LBS and noticed horrible clicking when cycling. Bearings must have gone in the BB. Am waiting to see what ones they have for me tomorrow, otherwise will order a DA bb to deliver in the week. Whoever last serviced it put a bog standard 105 in there. It's Hollowtech II, if that matters.
Getting the stem slammed tomorrow, nice and low once cut.
Not happy with full carbon forks, I feel like that stem will work loose. Can't pre-load nice and tight like on metal. Tempted once slammed to put a star nut in there and hope that's more permanent.
Some bright spark cut down the straight Vision TT bars I wanted to use, so the bar end shifters don't go deep enough. There is an internal stopper that would be a ballache to sand/file out. That means either new bars, pita mods, or go for the spare Profile Century's.
All week I've been dreaming of the ideal controls up front, but nothing clicks right. I think I will give in and go to 31.8, over the 26 at the moment. That means no straight tt bars, but I can use the Century's comfortably. Already using some on the Cannondale quite happily, so this should be fine.
Fingers crossed I will grab a nice set of Vision base bars and ITM brake levers from someone on here, so slowly the setup can go away from STI's.
The saddle rubs a little, so I will look into that, or look for an alternative.
On the lookout for Shimano road SPD pedals to replace the Look ones, as I only have Shimano cleats at the moment.
For now it looks like it will stay geared, but we'll see.

Pounding a star nut into a full carbon fork that's designed for a compression plug sounds risky.
-
• #10
Oh.... and the front DA brake is totally seized in the fork. So I hope it never fails....!
Yea maybe I must be realistic and just accept the maximum torque on carbon with compression plug.

Removed bb, checked shell, wiped clean, lubed threads, reinserted. On a test ride noise has totally disappeared

Needs risers and rapid fires

• #13
How about rapidfires on tt bars?
One step closer, slammed.

Riding not-fast along Lower Road, black man built like a brick shithouse runs out in front of me whilst looking in opposite direction. I shout but it's too late.
Cue being tackled by him, flying over the road, sprained wrist, cut and bruised knee, hip, and massive dent in the nameplate of the right DA STI. Bike seems okay, both hoods are bent inward a bit now (one from him hitting me, and one from the serious pocket of gravity on that stretch of road).
Eyeballed frame, seems that I broke its fall. Will look closer for damage when the paracetamol kicks in.

Kneecap still hurts bad, should upload progress pics of the bruising on my legs.
Had a nice ride up along the canal from Clapton to meet up with @windym who sold me an amazing pair of Vision base bars and ITM levers. Will be some time before they go on. Must find an adequate stem and get the TT bars to fit 31.8 clamp ...either the spare Profile Century back at my parents' or a good pair or straight TT bars.
Pic of base bars to come.

Don't think I'll be keeping the pink tape (it's growing on me, though). Really shiny nice 400mm base bars and ITM brake levers. Feel great and solid, with snazzy flat sections too.
Internal cable routing makes a big difference, very tidy. I'm afraid the visible cabling on Century bars may not look the part, even if it's a comfortable ride.

yeah i was saying more about the bruising! cant go wrong with some co-codamol :)

According to the instructions, I probably shouldn't ride a bike with the amount of painkillers in my system, but the ride feels great. Thanks for the arnica suggestion though!

Probably enough to kill me, +/-15• Giant stem. Nothing too fancy for now, bought down the market. Hope to replace with something awesome later, but will see what setup feels like in a week or few when the Profile Century bars are here.

Ummmm....... hmmmmm......
Got the Profile Century bars in the post, and I made a mistake. There's only one hole so no way to properly attach the SwiftShift adapter without drilling hole number 2??
Bollocks.
Looks like I need to find someone with a drill...

Did more digging. Made a mistake by trying to use the bar end style Dura Ace levers on a Swift Shift. I need flat, not curved, levers. So that idea is a no-go. I will keep my eyes out for some nice flat TT bars, and set it up with bar ends after all. Ho hum. More waiting.
Still tempted to (eventually) drill the Century bars and set up the Swift Shift on the Koga with its 7 speed setup. TT/Tri overkill for the commuter bike.

What a mare!
Playing with the DA shifters, they feel a bit naff, even trying them on the swiftshift they don't shift well. I know it's different STI vs DT lever, but these just don't feel right.
Still struggling to get a good set of TT extensions, Bought a new (without packaging) Vision Trimax Team set, but they arrived as 26mm. Size wasn't listed on the auction, so took a punt since nowhere online sells them in 26mm, only 31.8. Just my luck!
Bike is looking really shit, half stripped with bits hanging off, can't ride it now til I get something set up, as all the cabling is removed, handlebars swapped etc. Will probably buy all new cabling this weekend whilst working out what to do about the TT bar thing.
At this rate it's going ss/fixed.

Still some way to go... but....

Just rescued a sorry looking Kuota Kalibur from the shed at my parents'.
I really love my cannondale synapse carbon (2010 I think), but this kuota has that beautiful aero shape.
It needs a lot of work, seized parts etc, full strip and rebuild, but a lot of the dura ace can be salvaged.
Do I put the good stuff on the cannondale, and try to rad this kuota, or...?
Shame I can't put track ends on it, would be a great stiff track bike.
