;)
apropos of nothing I'm meeting up with my old climbing partner in Snowdonia next weekend. the bastard is still a racing snake and cranking out E4 6a/b at 55. At least i've shed 3 stone, but I predict a distressing/torrid time if he gets the ropes out..

Still waiting to climb with some of you fuckers.
Get on it people. There's even a pub near by.

The UK is small, there's invariably a watering hole within 1/2 hour of most crags :)

True dat. I rarely venture beyond zone 2 though! Also, the castle has good cake.

For anyone interested, we are building the largest bouldering centre in Europe in Burnt Oak, Edgware. The Arch has been very successful in Bermondsey and Fred Stone the director decided to spend the money on another one. It'll be up and running in about 10 weeks.
The height is about the same at the Biscuit factory, but this time we are building all the way to the ceiling, around 4.5 meters. On the plans I saw lots of slab and overhang of various degrees, a massive cave, some wierd pillar / stack type structures and a gym area, plus a cafe and outdoor seating. So far we have just built the showers and the toilets. I'll keep updating as things progress.

YEAH BOIIIII! My endz!
I have to ask though, why Burnt Oak? It's not really the most....sporting of areas, having spent most of my teenhood causing chaos there.
Edit: Really excited about this.

Awesome. Will the new place have shared membership with the Arch?

Build it and they will come. It mainly depends, I think, on finding the venue. Land in London is expensive and scarce, so Fred snapped this up.
Yes, Burnt Oak seems a little out of the way compared to Bermondsey, which is in reach of the commute of many more people, and also near a gym. However I think this will be a destination, perhaps more people will make the trip at weekends or when they have time off for a longer climb. Also, I have spoken to some of the residents in the block above the space and they are really excited about the idea. Some people have no idea what a "climbing wall" is but like the sound of it. The arch does a fair bit of teaching with kids so that might take a bigger role here, it will be something fun in an area with tesco and a merc garage and not much else. I'm optimistic.

The other centers do, so I assume so :)

Absolutely brilliant. Love the ethos behind it. Count me in as a regular.

I'm getting very fit riding the fixed there and back every day, 31 mile round trip. Got me thinking, what about a forum climbing centres ride?

Any further news to how this is developing? Itching to jump back in after years of being lazy

Yes, I'm up for that!

Still looking at over two months. We have the first big section of frame up and ready for ply.
The build looks like about 80% overhang, with lots of features, changes of angle, top-outs, roofs etc.
In the meantime, get down to the biscuit and building one at bermondsey!

Much excite! Make or break for sure.
Wish I could. Living and working in the desolation of NW London with shitty hours means Biscuit is but a fantasy.

Finally got back on the wall after a series of minor injuries and one fairly major thumb issue. Popped into the castle for a few hours and have never felt so weak or tired so quickly. Great feeling though.

Any of you lot climb down the Reach in Woolwich? You might have met my better half if so.

I've just signed up at white spider in new malding and been for a spot of bouldering. My first time climbing for about 8 years. Smashing the v0's all over the place. Rest of them were fucking hard. (Some of the v0s were too)
Anyone else climb at white spider? I'd like to find some people to climb with. Esp esp doing routes.

Also, repairing shoes. Any experience? I've patched these up before and would like to again but they are looking a bit done. Luckly in not climbing at a level that I'm noticing. Anyone got any advice?

It's perfectly possible to replace the sole/rand of a rock boot - I remember in the late 90s it was quite common to take new boots to a place in Sheffield that had some kind of super-sticky mystery rubber. I think it might be worth asking a re-soler what they think about the damage to the upper that you are showing in the photo, though.

Im going to have to disagree. On old style EB's it made sense but with modern rubber and construction its just not worth it. You will never get anywhere near the same performance as before and it is probably quite spendy. On the old EB's they would rubber weld a new edge to the boot as well as performing the patch up, but its been a very long time since we moved away from that.
From the looks of the remaining rubber you have worn them into the ground, the seam will probably go again elsewhere soon.
Im no expert though so If in your search it turns out it is worth it and they feel great again I would love to hear about it......

EBs, who'd've thought anyone on here would remember EBs, ahhhh
amazing that such clunky un-sticky rubber got me up my first vs's and hvs's
Cheers for that Rive, can confirm mine is not part of the recall.
