Woop!
OK so help me with the maths...
75 (inseam) - 54 (st) - 16 (crank) = 5 (seatpost and saddle)
right?!on my bike...
95 - 62 - 17 = 16
however measuring seatpost and saddle it comes to 25 not 16?!there's the pedal, cleat, shoe stack to factor. say 3/4. that's way off 9 (25-16)!
what am i missing here... -

You don't have the leg completly extended when on the bottom of the pedal stroke, isn't this the missing factor?
Measure the saddle height on the bike that she is driving currently? -
• #6
True, but that would give a number less than 5 (<75-54-16 = <5) surely?!
So less than 16, which is further from 25!

my girlfriend is 5ft 3 and she can't comfortably ride my bike with a 54st, even with post slammed. But of course, everyones different! measure the centre BB to top of saddle (mid point) on her current bike to get an idea of what you'll need. I'd be a little more concerned with the reach though, unless you are going with a short stem and swept back bars?
If you are building with drops and levers, I recently purchased some Tektro RL320 Junior levers for the GFs bike - made a huge difference and she can easily use the brakes from the hoods.

Cheers man. Good (and concerning) to know. Yeah I really should have thought to measure the town bike.
Thanks for the tip on the levers. I ordered the RL340 last night actually. £10 off Ribble. I'll see how they do.
Reach should be OK as she's got an incredibly flat back, great core strength and super loose lower back and hamstrings. I've ordered a ROSE Race Attack Compact drops that have 7.5 reach and 12 drop. £16 off Rose, of course.

Not sure if I've got anything quill, I'll have a look.
Currently building up a frame myself for my wife who's 5ft 3 - bike has 700c and looks quite squat / compact!

coming along!
brakes are 105 5600 (i think) that i had in my spares.
front and rear mech 105 5700 bought new.
11-28 cassette is ultegra 6700 and we've got the same series crankset coming. bb cups are in.wheels are pretty lush. girlfriend preferred them to the visions shown in the above photo.
front needs rebuilding though. too long to go in to now.new seat clamp and kalloy aero post.
the stem is system ex. i'm in two minds about it. the gap and the protruding bolt on the underside aint pretty.
the bars are fantastic, rose race attack. they're 75mm by 120mm and spot on for her at 36cm wide.
finishing kit is all a bit heavy but what the hey.saddle is just for the photo.
want to wrap white tape, white saddle. ideally find some of these white hoods cheap.
white cables too.
have 10 speed dt shifters to fit too.aim is get it done before mid-june!
