  • I still don't get why they don't put water bottle bolts inthese frames. I know, I know, they are meant for a velodrome, but reality is that 99% of customer use it on the streets, day in and day out...

Question: Can I remove the decals in current pre cursa frames, or the decals and below the clear coat? What about in the matt frames? I don't like so much branding, it attracks the thiefs and looks worse in my opinion. I´m thinking aobut ordering a pre cursa in size 54 and matt black. Just the frame, I will sort out the rest myself, I don't like the alpina branding either, and that one seems below the clear coat from the photos.

Please let me know. thanks in advance!!!

This is why they sell the FXE alongside.

  • The fxe has bottle mounts. Yes the decals are under laquer, get the matte one and spray paint it will cover it fine

  • ...attracks the thiefs...

Attracts the thieves. And the occasional #pedant

    ;-)

    • The bike will sleep on the streets 24/7, thats why the concern. if that is pedant, i´m the world champion of pedants.

    • I know, I know, I know the FXE has water bottle cages, problem is that it has way longer chainstays according to photos (they just don't indicate it in the geometry though, they show no chainstay length). Also the FXE is more expensive and it has worse dropouts, and I really don't like the cable hangers for the rear brake as i´m not gonna use any rear brake.

The matt versions of the pre cursa also have lacker? it must be a matt lacker then, right? I can not remove the decals in the matt version either? please let me know. In that case i will just use some black vinyl and stick them over it.

thanks a lot for the replies!!!

  • the FXE and the Precursa have the same Geo. The Matte one is matte lacquered yes

  • No, it is not the same geometry. It has exactly the same geometry in the values they show: angles, top tube lenght, head tube length. but chainstays are longer in the fxe, you can notice it in just any photo. The fxe is designed to give space for a mudguard. The pre cursa has no space for mudguard.

  • Precursa have space for mudguard, mine does at least, it even got the mudguard mount on the track end.

whether it's a little longer or not, it's still derived from the Precursa, if you're worried about the chainstay, just slam the wheel into the track end.

    Precursa with 32mm tyres;

  • Genuinely liking this build. Nice work.

  • ok, let's put it the other way around; pre cursa have space for mudguards, if you move the wheel to the rear of the dropouts. FXE has space for mudguards always, even if you put the wheel in the closest position to the frame.

  • can you confirm the decals are not removable or under the matt clear coat??¿?¿?¿?¿

  • If you want water bottle bosses, just get your LBS to punch some Rivnuts into the frame; it's how the factory does it anyway.

  • Logos are painted on and pointless to try remove as the paint underneath strips easy. If you're so adamant on a bottle cage, just use some inner tube and some Jubilee clips.
Not sure why when you can just get an FXE. The stays are not that much longer at all, at least not enough to really notice.

  • i will!!! great tip.

  • i give up on this forum, but thank you so much for the useful answers. I´m not getting a fxe, thank you.

  • but chainstays are longer in the fxe

    nah you're wrong

  • Logos are painted on

    nah, they're stickers under lacquer

  • Maybe you should consider something other than a Precursa...

  • Ya sure? mine sure seems like paint.
Not that it matters tbh. Leccy tape and done with it...

  • yeah enough time with a hair dryer and they will come off

  • Even better! Will give it a shot.

  • in they are really under the lacker, you can not pull them off right? or am I missing something?

Nahhh, chainstay length is definitely not the same. FXE is at least 10mm longer, I would say closer to 20 really; if you look at photos of them in google, in the precurse, when you put the wheel all in, it may touch the frame. In the fxe, you do the same, and it looks like over 2cm separated from the frame, even with the wheel all in.

  • there it is, post #2091;

    fxe has 10mm longer chainstays!!

  • Even so, it hardly gonna affect the bike in the long term, just slam the back wheel all the way in.

Front fork make the biggest difference (road fork = very nimble).

  • Decals come off dolans easy enough. They are stickers not paint, but under the lacquer. You can take them off neatly with some heat, a sharp object and patience. If the frame is matte black you won't notice the difference. If it's gloss black then in light it shows. But frames that are not black will get dirty quickly where the decals were. The dirt can be fully cleaned off but you'll need to use a solvent and do a proper job. Remove the decals and cover with sello tape or just keep them and cover over with electrical tape.
