That's almost certainly not the actual overall cost though.
First Direct 3 year rate for <65% is 1.68% but that's just the daily rate they use to calculate interest. The APR is 3.3% over the term.
HSBCs best 5yr fixed is 1.99% but 2.9% APR. It also includes a cap of 20% on monthly repayments. First Direct is unlimited.

We've got a 2 year fixed rate. Should we see this out, or should we jump around now?

Boom! completion
Here's to 30 years of debt
-
• #8589
Depends what you can get vs the early repayment fees.
-
• #8590
You might get a fine for jumping before the end of the fixed term.
We got a three year fixed and are getting charged £6000 for breaking early.
This drops to £2000 if we can drag our feet on completing til August.

Then you have kids and it returns with a vengeance.
Ah. Nursery fees, but you do get used to them, only for those to go when they go to school but the fear is replaced by:
a) nursery was 8-6, school is only 9-3, that's going to be costly and then,
b) nursery was 51 weeks a year, school is only 39. I don't get 13 weeks holiday a year...Then they start needing stuff like bikes. And they grow out of stuff way too quick; shoes, clothes, bikes, beds, bedrooms, gardens, houses, ...

I'm on 25. I'm fecking terrified of this mortgage and making payments forever.
It's just mental and yes I pay rent blah blah but still, I am having real commitment issues here.
I've lost most of my savings by sinking it into the deposit so my safety net which I have relied on forever is like a tea strainer. Fear, massive fear.
