I would want to know exactly what was causing the problem then get a refund if its a mac problem, just incase whatever you use as a replacement kicks up any similar issues. Most customer service/technical help is a disaster, apple is probably the best.
Any hackintosh or equivalent is going to be reliant on you solving any and all problems that come up yourself. If you are confident in doing that I'm sure it will be grand, but i would fail miserably.
