I got the Tubus Fly rack and Ortlieb City panniers from Rose Bikes. The rack is simple and understated. The panniers are very waterproof and grime just wipes off.
My only complaint about panniers is how the one thing you want to find manages to hide in the cavernous space. "Where are my fecking keys?!" "Please....oh bloody hell, pleeease, I know you are in there somewhere!"

Tortec Ultralite rack for me. I chose that over a Tubus Fly as I sometimes want to use a rackpack and the Fly is too narrow for that.
For panniers I wanted something visible, waterpoof and with an outside pocket (so I never had to faff inside the bag for home/work keys or work ID card).
In the end I went for Altura Night Vision panniers (in orange) as the model a few years ago still had outside pockets. They've been fine since then although the zip on the pocket has broken on both of them (still keep my keys in there, they're not going to fall out as there's a clip inside). I also found them with 33% off which made them less than "HOW MUCH?!? FOR JUST ONE!?!". Current model doesn't have outside pockets though.

I got a Looxs Varo large pannier and a Valvert rack......will give those a try. My Chrome Industries messenger bag is in it's 8th year of commuting, I think this new run and new commute may finally kill it.....
Hi All,
As I am now officially an old man, I am unloading that weight from my shoulders and loading up the bike.
I have a Specialized Singlecross Tricross. What Racks and What panniers for all weather commuting along the canal?
Thinking about some flexibility in terms of being able to use a single pannier if required or a double and using it as a carry bag when 'off bike'.
Cheers all!
