• Here are the new pedals. They were delivered when I was out of the country.
Painted barrels don't look too bad I don't think.

  • Nice ones!

  • Thanks. Here's the seatpost that arrived recently. Reynolds Hiduminium R3.
Anyone know what the R3 means?

I'm positively throwing myself into this build now as I've got some bad ju ju going on in my life and focusing on bikes helps me not become all consumed by events.
Just about over the line with the Super Champion purchase too.

  • From the 1947 Reynolds catalogue

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • So this happened this evening.
To me, it's the holy grail of gearsets.
    NOS Super Champion Osgear.
Should arrive in the next few days.
Thanks very much to the awesome forumite that let it go for the cause.
So stoked to finally own one.

  • Right, need to start thinking about hubs for the 46 Clubweight. Anyone got anything from the period that they wouldn't mind parting with? Guess the rear needs to be 3 speed screw on freewheel compatible (which I also need one of). Whatcha got? Good money waiting and parts going to a loving home :) Looks like the Osgear will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait!!!

  • Where the heck did you get that!!!

  • Got some bolt-on Airlites in nice nick, rear is currently spaced for gears at something like 120mm (possibly less), would be good for 3 or 4 speed or whatever. Bought them with a nice pair of Dunlop ('special lightweight' I think they're called) steel rims 27" from someone here but I really shouldn't have. I really really don't want to get back into this old stuff, much as I love and admire it.

Not exactly top notch (possibly a bit late but I'm not sure what years they were made) for your other pukka stuff but perfectly respectable hubs, they're just sitting here. So if you're stuck, ask me.

  • if it is the riveted flange hubs, they are pre war, and rare. Entirely appropriate for a 1946 bike. details Special lightweight rims (chrome) or the stainless special lightweight version?
more details on this period rims and hubs is at Classic Lightweight's Wheels for 1945-60s classic lightweights

  • No not the riveted ones.

  • I believe the rims are chromed.

  • Where the heck did you get that!!!

It's the same one that you nearly brought and kindly alerted me to from the awesome @ElGato.

  • Thanks @Skülly! Have you got any pictures? Could be interested!

  • I thought I recognised it :)

  • And here are the pictures. It's amazing. Wonder where it's been sitting for the last 70+ years?!?

    The tensioning arm:

Cable inner or outer. Not sure.

    Striking fork:

    Chain guide:

    3 speed shifter:

    Spoke protector:

And if anyone needs any visualation as to how it will look on a bike, see below. It get's the Gino Bartali seal of approval:

  • Gino Bartali was using the Vittoria Margherita (and paid for it as it wasn't up to standard to the Osgear)

These pictures are disrespectful of me! :p

  • Ah sorry, yes, I read the article wrong!

  • Btw I went for a Simplex Champion du Monde in the end :) will still do. Won't be as shiny looking as this, but still.

  • Ah, great stuff! :)

  • @7VEN
No pics yet. Will take some at some point soon. One is laced, one not.

  • That Osgear looks fantastic! Looking forward to progress on this build, and hopefully we'll catch up at Eroica, as I'm taking the Jim Guard with the Cyclo Ace gear again.

  • Cheers man. Hope to meet you too. Very much doubt this will be ready for Eroica so will probably bring the other Hobbs instead. What route will you be riding?
