You just got your new mac after weeks of hassle, and now you want a new macbook ?
-
• #7678
Yeah I kinda want one too. Might treat the wife for Christmas. Maybe.

I am really tempted, yes I just got a new machine and it's gonna be my workhorse etc... My plan was to use this 13inch on the go and spend a decent amount of mony to do up the 2011 15inch MBP to use at home... but after almost a year not actually needing the 2011 with everything I have done, including doing a huge amount of both video and photo editing for both my MA and commercial jobs, I don't think the 2011 Mac is any longer needed for me...
So maybe I will 'part exchange' that with the new MacBook, with topping the processor to 1.3ghz, the 256GB ssd model comes to a total of £1074 via the edu store. which is a lot of money... However, this specs is more than enough, on paper anyway, for doing anything on the go plus photoshoping shouldn't be a painful experience, which is what I would want this machine for anyway... Oh I don't know...

Just experienced my 1st blank screen of fuck on the replacement unit. I am giving up... might just go back to PCs as as least if they break, I can just bin them.
I really can't put my finger on it? Two different machines, two different models, a whole year apart, maybe it really is software related? This time I have nothing open, so it can't even be dodgy files playing at the background... Please this be a one off...

Magnets.

• #7682
What software are you running? Can you find anyone else on the support forums with the same problem?
-
• #7683
1.3ghz lol
-
• #7684
I am not running any software, this is the strange thing. I only just got this unit yesterday and only just finished installing various software, but when the blank screen happened, I wasn't running anything... In fact the only thing I have done on this unit is using Firefox.
And yes a quick google serach indicates this seems a problem that shared by a fair few, but since this model I have is very new, I can't find an someone who has an idential model that has the same problem yet... I would have to be very unluck to have 2 machines that have the same probelm surly?

Same power source?
-
• #7686
How do you mean? The blank screen has happened both on battery and plugged in...
-
• #7687
So it's happened twice on this machine? New power source or old power source?
-
• #7688
Oh no, it's only happened once so far on the new one, and it was on battery. It pretty much happened randomly with the old one...
At least 2 friends of mine have the same problem, 1 has given up battling against Apple, the other one doesn't give a shit... They both have 15inch MBPr...
I can't remember if I have posted this before, but this is what happened... this was made with the old one.

Weird. No idea.

Mayeb it's someone from above indicating I should really give up using apple products and go back to the using windows...
-
• #7691
That's some real bad luck.
My rmbp has never had that problem... I'd give them another call but I think the odds of them helping this time are lower, would you believe it? -
• #7692
wtf
-
• #7693
I will probably bring it into work for our tech guys to run some test to see if we can find out what the problem is, for the moment, I am just gonna keep my fingers crossed hoping that it was just a one off with this new machine. Otherwise, I will try keep making video and list of times and go back in a couple of weeks.
Yes, they are gonna be less keen in helping I am sure, but if I go back real quick this time, they can't deny there is a problem esp if I go with solid proof. Also, this I'd have nothing to 'gain'* but time to lose as this is already the latest model and all.
*A couple of the employees I spoke to during the whole process did imply that I was trying it on and that I should be grateful with any replacement.

Talking of bad luck, 2 of my other Macs I have / had also became recall products... one of which was a iMac that the HDD fried withing 3 months and about a year later, they had to recall every single one of them...
I seem to always end up buying fucked up Apple products... at least their customer service is still better than most...

Become a tree surgeon or a crab fisherman or something
-

Yeah that's a pretty bad run. I've never had a single problem in near 15 years mac use. Maybe one software update in 2003 was bad, but I fixed it.
I expect my next purchase to be a lemon.

Tim Bradshaw at the FT (who I rate, and he's a nice chap to boot) says that it struggles to run a number of browser tabs on top of Yosemite:
"...the MacBook struggles with too many browser tabs, let alone video editing. It is the only flaw in a near-perfect laptop."

He's the only person I've heard say this so far but I trust him so I wouldn't bother. I was between that and a Google Pixel 2, I'm going to get the Pixel 2 because it only has to run Chrome and it has an i5 as well as 8Gb of ram.

Not a Mac though, obvs. But the Pixel is the new Macbook's natural competitor.

Fuck both.
If I bought the new MacBook in gold, would you guys still speak to me?
On a serious note, really tempted by that computer...
