Is there really any point in me spending another £13 for a DA9000 BB over a 4600 BB for the TT bike?

  • For the money I'd go Ultegra. Apparently the difference between that and DA9000 is slightly smaller cups, lower weight, marginally less drag (not that you'd notice)

  • It does, my only worries is that they change the cable pull of the Tiagra 4700 derailleur/shifter like they did to the 11 speed version.

Here's hoping they didn't, it mean a lots of happy customer being able to rid their old Tiagra shifter for a modern shaped one.

  • Wireless coming to your crackyon soon...

  • Have they said where the battery lives?

  • One battery on each derailleur innit?

  • Fancy!

  • Not due for release until 2016, but that article says late Sept.

  • Opinions? Vs SRAM Red Exogram, for using with Shimano groupset?

  • @amey

SRAM eTap. How do you shift a gear whilst shifting a ring?

SRAM, you haven't thought this through.

  • SRAM looks infinitely better imo and still compatible with normal rings

  • it'll be more universal should you change frames, but the sram red does very well in stiffness to weight for the price and the shifting is probably going to be worse with either the sram or fsa when using shimano

  • I'm a sucker for the latest and greatest gadget, an early adopter as the marketroids would call my demographic - and I've no desire to try that SRAM wireless.

    Maybe I'm ill?

  • BB30 BB though, and wouldn't want to use an adaptor. No Shimano BB30 crankset. So question is, will the Red or FSA work better with Shimano, and Di2?

  • Middleburn are doing a new BB - I spent some time talking to the chap at Bespoked as their stand was next to ours - which is specifically for 24mm axles in a BB30 shell.

It looked really good, took full advantage of the BB30 shell diameter to get really large diameter bearings in place, rather than using ones for a 30mm axle and a couple of reducers.

  • probably the sram, ettix qs have had loads of trouble with the fsa rings shifting badly with di2 this season (how much of that is real or just riders jumping on a bandwagon I don't know, but presume the former) for that reason I'd go with sram

I'd honestly look into a praxis conversion bb though, I've not heard any creaking stories with them and the idea seems solid, and the front shifting will drastically be improved, if not maybe have a look into the turn zayante cranks? stiffest around and will have the next best shifting to Dura Ace rings with shimano, thanks to the praxis rings

    this is food for thought:

  • Put the single chainring on and a wide range cassette make it perfect (and light).

  • I've a rotor crankset with praxis rings. Nice non groupeset crank. Or go cannonndale hologram

  • Good point - buy my Rotor 3D+ SRM cranks!

  • Not ill. wireless groups are a solution looking for a problem.

  • The Luddites rang (their church bells), they want you to join. Please send a SAE and a postal order for 25 guineas.

  • Thanks for the info. Think I'll stick with SRAM Red / Force mix for the time being, and save the cash for other bits. Maybe later Di2.

  • It looks like progress to me.

    • A few less holes/cable runs in frames (and none of the compatibility issues of wired e shifting).

    • Easy/fast building/fixing of bikes.

    • Possible accidental activation of mate's front mech and/or central locking of idiot drivers etc.

Unless you have an irrational fear of poundland coin cells... what's not to like?

  • Put the single chainring on and a wide range cassette make it perfect (and light).

You're trolling me I know but this is balls, unless you only ever ride at the boring speeds on boring terrain.
