I use the numbers from races on the basis that it's a more accurate reflection of my physiological ability (which is what FTP is supposed to be measuring). It also makes me work a bit harder in training which is always a good thing!
When I do private CP20 tests, I just put my poor performances down to the psychological issue of me being a bit of a wuss.
