Good luck, Nick, clearly the driver's fault from your description. Hope you're not seriously injured.

It occurred at the junction of Graham Road and Navarino Road
Curious - the exact same spot I was decked last year.
Report to police, attend A&E.

We're working to have both Navarino and Greenwood Road filtered, but there are some other things that have to be done before that happens.

I have a friend who was hit today, going over London Bridge, van driver decided he didn't want to be on the bus lane anymore so stuck it in reverse, went into my friend knocking him and his bike to the ground. Luckily he is ok (told him to get checked out) but the bike is pretty scuffed up. Rideable but not as pristine as a 2 month old £1500 bike should be.
I've told him to get himself checked out and to take the bike to an LBS to get properly checked for damage.
The driver (or at least his company) is now denying responsibility, saying they have a witness (which they don't). My mate does have a witness.
He is not a member of any organisation that would afford him access to specialist solicitors.
What should he do next?

First step. Report get your friend to report it to the Police.
-
• #432
Already done, had to go into the station but it's done
-
• #433
Second step, advise him to join British Cycling(£29.70 by Direct Debit) or CTC(£41.50)
-
• #434
If it's reported to the police, and there's a witness, and there might be CCTV, and the driver can be sanctioned by the police of dangerous driving etc, then there's a chance your mate could also claim on their insurance.
In the absence of a solicitor I'd try to use the police to prove responsibility and then take it from there. Will be bloody tough, though.

@stevo_com, as @Tango130 says get them to join CTC or LCC and then use the access to their lawyers to get payout from driver and company. Do mention it will take a while, mine's currently upto a year and counting, and the major money is in personal injury, but he should get more than enough to repair/replace broken bike and any other property damage that occurred at the time..

advice people! was in a accident yesterday...
i was filtering between stationary traffic and parked cars. going 10kmph tops.
driver moves a foot to the left from being stationary to allow a bus (coming from the opposite direction) room to pass him. no indication. can't imagine he looked as he would have seen me.my right hand went through his mirror and smashed it up. my hand had minor abrasions.
he accepts no fault. says i owe for damaging his mirror.i've submitted form 207 to the police because he (effectively) said he is making claim against me, and i feel i cover myself. ridiculous. the clown is chasing me for a broken mirror. fucking cheek.
i now feel as if i should chase him for compensation for my hand.
is it easy or a massive ballache?
if the crown looks at the video any joy he'd get points on his license? -

my hand had minor abrasions.
Get these recorded by your doctor for starters?
-
• #441
Driver ignored Highway Code 151, 152, 160 and 161.
-

This wont help in your current situation but please join British Cycling or similar, not only do they provide 3rd Party Liability Insurance but also offer free legal assistance, all for less than £30 if you pay by direct debit.
if the crown looks at the video any joy he'd get points on his license?
Post up your video so we can fully understand the situation.

@TW thanks good read; shame no cases of cyclists.when the police come back to me i'm pursuing the fuck out of it then. since already had the hassle of seeing a doctor and printing out/ filling in a wank form - taking up GP and police time - and the dull ache of my hand.

There's a couple of bits of CCTV covering the area. Also that's on a bus route so worth checking to see if anything has been picked up on camera with some Subject Access Requests.

I was knocked down on Friday by a car and I would appreciate some advice:
I was heading down Holloway Road and a driver turning right through a gap in traffic hit me in the side. I am not badly hurt - I was given the all clear by the ambulance crew with some bruising on my shoulder blade and leg but nothing more. I was sick later in the afternoon and took a taxi to A&E where I was diagnosed with mild concussion. am feeling absolutely fine now bar a few aches and pains. My bike is fine apart from the front wheel needing a true.
The driver stopped and asked if I was OK, and bought me a bottle of water. I have his details and the details of two witnesses who stopped. As I am relatively unhurt and my bike is relatively undamaged I am not keen to enter a long, drawn-out process; what is the consensus on contacting the driver directly to ask him to reimburse me the cost of:
A new helmet
Having my wheel trued
1 day loss of earnings
The taxi ride to the hospital?
Is it a bad idea to do this "unofficially"? My feeling as that he will be happy with this outcome as he is bang to rights and the amount of money will not be more than a few hundred quid. -
• #449
Might be cheaper for the driver to go through his insurance. I tried to claim a couple of hundred quid from a firm whose driver knocked me off a year ago and they thought that £50 would cover my costs (completely fucked h plus son to Paul components wheel). Luckily, I'm a British cycling member and I got legal help. It took a while but I got paid out and I started to feel shoulder pain a month after the accident that was due to soft tissue damage i hadn't foreseen. I got paid for injuries, new wheel, shoes and fork which was nice, although the white le process took months.
It doesn't hurt trying to see if the driver is willing to pay for your bike and loss of earnings, but be prepared to get legal help and don't dismiss your health straight away.

Hi all, hoping for some advice. I was hit by a driver last Thursday on a roundabout. Driver stopped and we swapped all details, took photos etc. I was ok apart from quite a lot of cuts and bruises. Nearly everything I was wearing has been wrecked and the bike has been taken into a shop to have a full crash assessment (carbon). Driver told me he'd like to deal with it outside his insurance company which is fine I guess? I haven't reported in to the police because he seems to be a decent enough guy and I don't want to get him into any trouble.
I've now sent him across the full cost of replacing the ruined items and made him aware that there could be further costs depending on what is found from the crash assessment (hear back tomorrow on that). I'm just starting to get the sense he's dodging me a bit. He has said he will reply to the email tomorrow so I guess we'll see.
My question is, am I doing the right thing so far? If he does start ignoring me what should I do? Get in touch with the police? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is any CCTV and no one stopped at the time. Might be worth mentioning that I have his company details, his address and know who his insurance is with. I'd rather not get into a long drawn out process so any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.
Jake
OK, have just seen the other thread, will follow the instructions there.
