  • how are they still going? Parts are shit (hubs are ok) and often way over priced

  • I actually set foot in there for the first time in years the other day to see if they had a shim for a steerer. I won't be going back in again if I can help it.

When I first asked, I got a blank look. Then there must've been some sort of satellite delay to the brain as it finally clicked what I asked for. The fella then went to the side of the counter where there was a large box marked 1" to 1 1'8" Shims and told me how much they were. I can't remember exactly how much they were, but I remember scoffing at the price a little, possibly something like £5. Then I asked how tall they were, they were 50mm. Who needs a 50mm steerer shim? Most A head stems are around 40mm. I got told they could cut it down and pay for the labour costs. I didn't bother asking how much. I asked nicely at another bike shop and got given the correct sized item for free without bother...

  • tbh I found Jan always helpful when I've spoken to him, he set about measuring his own brand pista frames with the cut out to try to identify what size expanding bolt I need, and offered to keep em peeled for a cinelli I had stolen
there was another little guy there who was all over a build I had, taking pictures, who was friendly enough, some of the other staff can be a bit too cool for school though
I have heard some stories from people who worked there, and I have seen that the branded stuff is popular abroad at first hand, Jan told me that side of the business pretty much runs itself now,
    I would deal with Jan
