I actually set foot in there for the first time in years the other day to see if they had a shim for a steerer. I won't be going back in again if I can help it.
When I first asked, I got a blank look. Then there must've been some sort of satellite delay to the brain as it finally clicked what I asked for. The fella then went to the side of the counter where there was a large box marked 1" to 1 1'8" Shims and told me how much they were. I can't remember exactly how much they were, but I remember scoffing at the price a little, possibly something like £5. Then I asked how tall they were, they were 50mm. Who needs a 50mm steerer shim? Most A head stems are around 40mm. I got told they could cut it down and pay for the labour costs. I didn't bother asking how much. I asked nicely at another bike shop and got given the correct sized item for free without bother...
how are they still going? Parts are shit (hubs are ok) and often way over priced
