  • Start easy, for the first mile it should feel like you can go much faster. Gradually ramp it up until by 9 miles you're not sure if you'll be able to finish at that pace (you will tho).

Just roll it round in a nice big gear but do change gear as you have the luxury of doing so.

  • Wow - thanks.

@andyp do you mean 20mph? I wish I had a way of measuring. Was gonna put my GF's computer on my bike last night but couldn't be bothered.

And I've already put on my most "race" jersey. Unfortunately I am a fairly hairy fellow. On the commute this morning I was practicing my "tuck" on the drops with horizontal forearms. Marginal gains.

  • Hoods often cited as being more aero, but depends how much saddle to bar drop/flexibility you've got I suppose.

  • I'm improving. Can nearly touch the floor with legs straight.

  • Filth.

  • Nope, I meant 30 mph.

It was advice given to me by a very good rider when I started TT'ing. I discarded it, went for 25 mph instead.

  • Eat your greens, put your feet up the night before.

  • ^ Advice of champions!

  • Cheers. I'll put my feet up last night. Am having a mint Aero as well..

  • Eat an entire malt loaf a few hours before you start.

  • Don't forget the copious amounts of beetroot juice too

  • I am quite a buyer of the beetroot juice thing I think

  • Fupping hell that was fun. Managed a gentlemanly 28:55. Will provide a full report tomorrow.

If you can wait that long.

  • Is that still the case if it's a circuit with 10 laps on a rolling circuit, so requiring different levels of effort at multiple points in every mile?

  • You'll naturally put out more power going uphill, even if you think you're holding constant power. Opposite going downhill.

  • Club TT last night - 11 seconds faster than last week, despite it being a much slower/windier night. The winner had just come back from a session at Newport Velodrome aerotesting with @xavierdisley :) and I was just under 30s adrift of his time, which I think bodes well.

Also beat @Borek by 5s :) although I think that was only because he spent all the time listening to his new disc wheel :P

  • first TT of the year tonight, cant decide if i'm fast enough at the moment to justify my pointy helmet and shoe covers....

I suppose i'll be even slower without them so may as well!

  • tonight

Ours? If so, see you later.

  • If you own it, race it. Better to get used to any of the fast kit you plan to use in races. Different conditions let you find problems in less important events, ie. my visor fogging up in the last 10 I did reminds me to either treat with Salclear or untape vents or both.

  • shoe cover advice people.. my volotoze lasted all of 25 minutes, was really careful trying not to rip them but not careful enough it seems and alas i got 1 TT out of them. Whats a better alternative?

  • Although they're about to let go, I've got quite a lot of miles out of my custom Impsport covers.

  • If by better you mean faster, then Smart > Coated lycra (Castelli, Pearl Izumi) > lycra covers (may not be faster than uncovered shoe though)

  • My lap times from last night:

    02:40.9
    02:42.5
    02:37.9
    02:37.3
    02:39.7
    02:37.7
    02:39.0
    02:39.2
    02:38.0
    02:39.3
    02:24.7

With absolutely zero timing mechanism except my own brain, I'm well chuffed at that

  • Isn't there meant to be a special technique to get them on?

Roll them up, put them half way up your calf then roll them down over the shoe?
