press ups on your knuckles are apparently good for strengthening wrists
curls with a straight bar will add strength, just go lighter for a bit and work your way up

Started taking BCAA's today - Tropical Storm tastes pretty grim.
Anyone got any experience with them?
-
• #707
Yeah, capsules are the answer but poor value for money. The powder tastes like shit.
-
• #708
Tropical storm or BCAA in general? If the latter my opinion is if it might help you it can't hurt..
I use it..

I wonder if I should start with bcaa's... What they do again?

BCAAs have only two circumstances that have been proven worthwhile .
During fasting. If you do an IF diet, and taking BCAAs actually doesn't interfere with your fast if you are trying to prevent a break and need to get through a workout. Note training first thing in the morning isn't a fasted state . Fasted doesn't mean you didn't eat prior to lifting, it means post absorptive . If you ate dinner the night before , you are still in an absorptive state .
While dieting down hard. This is where I recommend you re-think your strategy though. Needing BCAAs because you're dieting hard means you might have other things to worry about, like why are you dieting that hard to start with and what are other potential options.
You get all of the BCAAs you will ever need if you're meeting your protein requirements daily.
Furthermore they are expensive and you need to take a lot to get the 30 g or so that would be in the meal you ate instead of BCAA powder / tablets prior to working out . Again BCAAs aren't needed as the food you ate prior is still being digested and assimilated during the workout. -

While your at it you might want to avoid these popular " muscle building " supplements
-Glutamine
-L-Arginine
-Betaine
-HMB
Here's why
http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/blog/5-supplements-not-worth-taking/?utm_content=bufferf072b&utm_medium=This is a really good resource for nutrition and supplements information . http://examine.com/

What? Why?
What's this got to do with anything?
-
• #716
They're not bad for you just not necessary . For now see them as a protein supplement in theĀ future use food or your Whey protein , try sipping 20-25g of the BCAA intra workout as your brand probably also contains citrulline which will help endurance and reduce fatigue .

i might try BCAAs first thing in the morning. It worries me that ive slept for 8 hours and i then get up get dressed, go riding, re dress at work and only sit down for 'break-fast' at 8:30. Thats 2.5 hours willingly catabolic after an 8 hour fast.

I've used L-Arginine pre workout and definitely noticed a difference in pump. I also read that if taken in large doses just before bed it can boost GH
Of course, as with most supplements, could all be placebo and lies :D

Couldnt find a link for the whole documentary in one thing but this is worth a watch. Particularly the bit about supps and the irony of hugely roided up guys telling you how to get bigger by taking vitamins.

I've started to workout fasted, including kettlebells and no muscle loss.
Now, if you're super lean or dieting hard it may be a different story as your body has 0 reserve to dig into.

Yes that's a really good documentary sadly Mike "Mad Dog " Bell who's brother Chris is the filmaker , died in 2008 of an inhalation induced heart attack in rehab .
It's an illuminating programme and watching Carl Lewis squirm is great . -

http://www.ergo-log.com/ is a very good blog on supplements, steroids (he's done a book), trials with supplements etc.
So Much BS in the body building/fitness industry where drugs are now endemic. After a while you can almost determine the chemicals used watching the pics.... ;)
I'm Dutch so I can't say exactly come out saying prohibit drugs (:

The similarly-named http://erowid.org also has a lot of good information about supplements.

So currently I'm taking 5g before and after a workout and then 25g-30g of protein shake after a workout.
I'm working out 2x a day this week before my holiday - One leg/cardio/core and one arms, chest, back and core.
Oh also dieting(ish) at the same time.
My wrists ain't keen on curls either.
Does curling with palms facing each other feel better?
