Yeah you can see in your 3 bolt adaptor wear marks from the pedal body. From where the pedal body rubs on it.
I put the metal plate protector on top of my plastic 3 bolt adapotor, but it's not just causing friction so the float is not very free. So if they're wearing the metal plates, I'm not sure what the point in them is. Maybe to wear the metal plate and not the plastic one.
Off topic but i want to try midfoot at some point.

8 months and counting... no problems here. I only considered it after I met someone else riding brakeless on them. Hasn't been a problem in the slightest.
NB I am using track speedplays, but I can't really tell the difference between them and my regular ones...

Lubing the plate did the trick.
But now they're super dirt magents!
Do like speedplay though. Best pedal out there. -

I prefer spd-sl but whatever floats your boat

I see what you did there...

Clever ain't he?

I like being able to walk in speedplay. Walking in spd is just difficult.
-

I find walking in all cleated shoes equally shit so I don't do it unless I have to. MTB shoes + SPD is the best setup if you're off the bike a lot.

Mtb shoes and time atac

They are OK. I use them for fixed. SPD cleats last way longer though so still better.
-
• #462
Yeah but small footprint and little adjustment with spd. Not good for doing big miles on.
-
• #463
Loads of people have done huge tours on SPDs. Stop your whinging. :P

I've read a few pages and my question doesn't seem to have been answered. If it has, sorry for missing it.
I've got a pair of silly expensive Northwave winter mtb boots, love them. Had to stop using them though as the spd interface is too small and I can feel the the cleat through the sole and get hot spotting.
Will the speed play frogs or the new spd clone help resolve this? I can't see how as it seems to have a similar size footprint.
Any other options available or am I either gunna have to suck it up or sell them?

close friend of mine is upgrading his cro moly speedplays to new stainless ones. i asked if he'd sell on the old pair and he asked me to make him an offer, but i have no idea what a fair price would be. cro moly speedplay zeros with red pedal body, been on the bike about a year and a half, probably ridden about 5000 miles, regularly greased, well looked after, no crashes. so, are they worth buying and if so what would be a fair price to offer him? thanks for any advice

Used CrMo pedal bodies are worth very little. New they are ~85 GBP including cleats. Cleats will set you back 32 so that leaves around 50 for brandnew pedals. Worth buying? Only if you have some cleats and want another pedal. What is fair? Maybe 15 Guineas. As a close friend he should just give them to ya :-)

They aint worth much, £20 maybe at most....

thanks for the input guys. yes i already have speedplays on another bike and these would be great on my new single speed project im slowly building up, so i wouldnt need new shoes or cleats. I'll offer him 15 and a few light ales at the pub and see what he says!

Upgrading? LOLs

What should I be lubing my cleats with?
-
• #472
I just use purple extreme; I take them off shoes; disassemble and clean every couple of weeks though ..

Lol fuuuck that. Will any dry lube do or does it have to be Teflon? Got some of that squire wax chain lube.
See where the 3-bolt plate is? Imagine over the top of that and under the cleat body is a thin metal plate, which has since deformed over time due to my huge power output. Lube that.
