Yeah you can see in your 3 bolt adaptor wear marks from the pedal body. From where the pedal body rubs on it.
I put the metal plate protector on top of my plastic 3 bolt adapotor, but it's not just causing friction so the float is not very free. So if they're wearing the metal plates, I'm not sure what the point in them is. Maybe to wear the metal plate and not the plastic one.
Off topic but i want to try midfoot at some point.

See where the 3-bolt plate is? Imagine over the top of that and under the cleat body is a thin metal plate, which has since deformed over time due to my huge power output. Lube that.
