i think i met this guy, older, beardey, rode from high Wycombe to oval for 6quids worth of parts, had a mercian with a campag record crankset he'd converted himself, seemed ok in person, when I asked for details on the conversion via email he slipped back into his online persona

New Scientist did a feature on Canavero a couple of months ago - my understanding from that is that the transplant isn't going to be possible yet because there's no reliable way to connect the spinal cords. I think I recall that more recent previous head transplants were done on mice or somethig and they just didn't bother with connecting the spinal cords at all so they were paralysed from the neck down. And then the body rejected the transplanted head anyway, so.
Think the volunteer is maybe jumping the gun a bit here.
