Commuting Gloves

Posted on
  • Can anyone recommend some gloves to wear while commuting?
Ive looked at a few but most seem to be all armor for mountain biking more than anything and a bit over kill.
    Any suggestions?

  • Rapha town gloves.

  • I have used these for many years and find the versatility of having the mitt or the fingerless option quite useful for those days when it's suddenly a bit warmer/colder than you first thought. It takes a little bit of getting used to having no fingers for gears, but since we're all FG or SS here then that's irrelevant ;)

  • I like full finger gloves for commuting, thin-ish material on the back with hand padding (obv); had a pair of Gore Bike wear ones for a few years that were brilliant but eventually the fingers all fell apart. I'm now wearing Endura Full Monty's which are slightly thicker material but generally seem decent for the price.

  • What was all that again? Sounds like too good an opportunity to miss

Re: gloves, surely you commute with the same gloves as you wear when riding bikes generally. Mitts in the spring/summer/autumn, full fingered warm/waterproof gloves in winter.

Let's face it, cycling is one if the few past times that legitimately excuse the wearing of mitts without looking like an extra from The Warriors or a Will.i.am wannabe

  • I normally use padded mitts (Specialized or Gore) whenever I can but I'm thinking a pair of lighter full-finger gloves (not bulky winter ones) would be useful for my upcoming audaxes where I'm likely to spend some time riding overnight in the cold.

So, anything like 'normal mitts' but with long fingers?

  • Unless its really cold i've always been happy with atura 'classic' mitts, on the changeable days with btwin liners underneath. most other mitts seem to fall apart in months in my experience whereas the alturas generally last the whole season. Plus they're all cool and retro looking. YMMV

  • the alturas generally last the whole season

That'll be a first from Altura, in my experience.

Perhaps they've upped their QC game...

Very versatile in terms of usable temperature range. I wear them every day.

That's exactly what these are. Long finger version of their summer mitt.

  • I can't say my Altura Classics have lasted too well
