• I lived in Kent at the time I had both Elises. The S1 was vandalised on the street when the previous owner had it - smashed side window and someone tried to prise the nose badge off. In my ownership I had a shared driveway, once when it was parked on the street someone tried, unsuccessfully, to prise the roof off and stole the aerial. The S1 leaked a lot and was worse with the hard top. The S2 was keyed when parked at work once. It never leaked and generally felt less fragile than the S2 (in a lotus way). The headgasket went on the S2 (K series) but it's only a matter of time with them really. I commuted in both every day and overall reliability was fine. I'm not sure what it would be like with infrequent use - keep the battery topped up and I can't imagine it being too bad. They're simple cars with one of the most proven engines ever made. I even drove the S2 in snow on toyo A048s and it coped fine - better than the transit in front of me that span into a ditch!
I ended up getting the S2000 after writing the S2 off on a roundabout. Really annoying accident. I had a blowout on an A road and had to get towed to the nearest tyre depot (aerosol gunk can't fill a fist-sized hole in a sidewall!). The depot didn't have any decent tyres in stock so I went for the cheapest so I could order my own from black circles. While I was waiting for delivery I entered a greasy roundabout at around 20, the back end slid out and I overcorrected, hitting the curb and barrier in the centre of the roundabout. Ended up worth a stupid amount of damage for such a low speed - cracked rear alloy, smashed front and rear clam and bent the diffuser. My insurance co gave me the option to repair or take the money, I took option 2 and stuck it into my flat deposit.
I bought the S2000 as I still wanted something RWD, chuckable and convertible.
I'll be selling it soon though as I never use it and I find getting out of London to enjoy the roads a pita now days.

  • Not considering, it's up for sale:

Has been for a few weeks now, had a little bit of interest.

My new car is in the attached pics

  • Ok so it's taken me a while to get round to this but here's the S2000.
First registered in 1999 so is the AP1 version.
103000 miles, I'm the 5th owner. I bought it in April 2010 with 87000 miles.
Paintwork is a little tatty where birds have shat on it - it could do with a mechanical polish really. Offside rear arches is suffering the typical honda rust problem. A few little dings and the drivers' door and rear 3/4 was keyed several years ago. My friend did a not so good job at repairing it! Several stone chips to the front bumper and a few on the bonnet. Front bumper has had headlight washers removed and has been smoothed. Soft top replaced with newer glass rear screen version.
Mechanically it's all good. Fully pollybushed, koni adjustable shocks, HKS hi-power dual exhaust (I think I still have a decat somewhere as well that I can include if wanted) and HKS intake, Rota drift alloys.
12 months tax, MOT expires next month but will sort new one out pre-sale if there's any interest.
There's not a lot of service history as I've done most things myself or used my girlfriend's uncle who is a mechanic.

Overall it's a great car, has never let me down and is great fun to drive. Could do with a few hundred pounds spending on the body work if you want to properly smarten it up.

I'm selling as I never use it any more and it's just a waste sitting around not being used. I'll be looking for around £4k. It's not advertised anywhere yet so let me know if any interest.

I'm having trouble uploading photos, but I'll persevere.
