Advice for short break locations with a bike??

Posted on
  • Ok so the story goes i had purchased a spiffing Honda Campervan at the start of the year and have booked 9 days leave starting on the 17th of this month. The plan was to head up to the Derwent reservoir the location for the British elite series (tour of the reservoir) for a few days then heading over to the isle of Arran. Now the issue i have is some fucktard has put a brick through my windscreen and the replacement will not be fitted until 22 May. Moral of this bit is to not leave a vehicle near a shit hole pub even for a few hours.

What options are out there for a cheap city break with a bike? Thinking maybe Berlin as I have never been and I am sure flights would be cheapish...

Any recommendations re locations at short notice? I am quite easy re the type of cycling obviously the planned trip would have been a good mixture of rolling hills and everything inbetween. I just want to get away for a few days with the bike..

Oh not really felling Paris or Brussells as I have been to both copius amounts of times..

  • Take the half five train to Lake District (3 hours from London), arrived at 9am, and go riding.

  • Fella you may have nailed it.. Coast to coast

  • I was looking at Berlin trips on Expedia the other day, it's amazingly cheap from Stansted and I think it's better than Amsterdam to cycle round. Kraków too, you can get a week in a three star hotel b£b inc flights for less than two hundred quid.

  • Sail Rail tickets to Ireland are still a bargain, lots of challenging / attractive riding there:

  • Peak District.
    It is perfection.

  • I actually have a full free 9 days so when i get home I will check out the flights to berlin as well as a possible coast to coast trip.

I do worry taking my bike on a plane however as last time it went to the philippines due a (random) customs inspection and lack of care taken putting the bike back in the box my front wheel looked like a 50p getting wanked off by a banana

  • Barcelona is prett rad but you could stay in the UK, do the coast to coast (East to West) and then enjoy a LOT of cycling in the Lake District.

Majorca and Tenerife are awesome for cycling too if the weather isn't so good here.

  • ^ You can probably hire a bike in Majorca/Tenerife too. Just take your own pedals and saddle.

  • Yeah Majorca does look bloody brilliant and you can hire some really good bikes for very little coin when you price in what it costs to fly a bike with you.

Krakow looks like a good location if you want to be off the beaten track but once you put in bike transport for either Ryanair or Easyjet it does bump the price up a fair. I could see it being very cheap if you booked well in advance.
