It's how olde Englishe bikes were built, 40h rear, 32h front. It's great @mdcc_tester posted those nice velocity rims. If you want to find another 'period' option, jumbles like Ripley often have sellers with esoteric things like 27" rims in 40h.

But those Velocities will be excellent.
I want to build a sturmey archer aw3 wheel but the earlier (and better) hubs seem to be 40h... is 40h just massive overkill for a small girl or will it not make much difference? Does anyone make 27" 40h cheapish rims? for that matter can anyone recommend any 27" cheapish rims? boxy and shiny please.
