  • Get the frame faced. Skip this and it'll wear any brand of external BB.

    Spoken to two independent bike shops now who have told me this isn't necessary, despite me saying I just want it done as a precaution... it's like they dont want my money?!

    I may take it to evans, they've been the only one interested in my business so far. Weird.

  • I recently asking about getting a frame that had been powder-coated chased and faced. The guy seemed to think the same, he said he would chase the threads, but thought facing the shell was a bit unneccessary with a modern bb system

  • Usually you should tap, and then face the BB, I agree it's best to have it done.

    BB labour usually involved tapping and facing.

  • If it was faced in the factory then any paint can be taken off with a knife and it's good to go. Did they even look at the frame? If it's unfaced then (as @Dammit says) is pretty slapdash to skip facing the frame for use with outboard bearing cups.

    Find a better shop!
