    Right but wrong. Fork crown mounted does reduce brake chatter, but not because the cable is shorter. In fact the cable is basically the same length, it just has more outer covering with a crown mounted set up, but that makes no difference. Chatter is reduced because you have eliminated the feedback between tyre reaction and the distance between the cable stop and the straddle cable. With a headset or stem mounted stop, tyre reaction from braking which bends the steerer changes the distance from the cable stop to the straddle, which alters the brake pad pressure, which alters the tyre reaction, which bends the steerer (or lets it spring back to straight if the tyre reaction is reduced).

  • I did mean the exposed cable run, but had a 2 year old demanding more food so had to truncate my reply.
