If you machined a new axle and re-machined the hub shell you might be able to modify the hub to take cartridge bearings, but I doubt there is enough metal in the hub to cut away a disc-shaped hole where there was a doughnut-shape bearing interface before.
There's nothing wrong with non-cartridge bearings, unless you hub is shagged, in which case you may as well rebuild the wheel onto a new cartridge hub or new non-cartridge hubshell (re-using your current freehub body etc).
[edit: nevermind, fettled on for a bit and found out for posterity: NO YOU CANT'T. Not without replacing the inner 'pipe' anyway because the bearing cones are not flat (like industrial bearings) but conical on the inside]
Wondering if I can replace the cup/cone system bearings of my Zonda wheels with industrial/sealed bearings and if yes, which. Has anyone on here done this or know?
