As I thought...

My biggest climbing rides have fallen short of 5000m of climbing, yet near killed me.
If I was to attempt an Everest. I'd demand to have sherpa's carry oxygen (and almond fingers).

Can't get a PR if you've got nothing to improve on.

Almonds are causing drought in California.

It will list all the segments you've ever attempted, along with their details, your best effort and the difference between you and KOM.
You can filter and sort that list by various things including: % behind KOM, segment length, elevation gain, time, distance away etc etc.
So if you really wanted to maximise your chances of getting a KOM, it could tell you where to go.

Who are these weirdos logging their 1.5 mile trips to the shops?!
-
• #3783
Sometimes getting out of bed and hitting the shops is a big effort

Marginal gains.

Me! I record everything. I pity the fools that follow me.
I'm a bit of a data nerd though, and I use the records to make visualisations.

I can't fucking believe ive just lost a KOM segment in the Austrian Alps. The fuckers must have speeded up the cable car because I've held that one for nearly two years.

I'm just discovering Strava, people log 20m sprints on random roads? It's all very weird for me at the moment. No doubt it won't be long before I do the same.
If I have the app open does it collect data automatically and then when uploaded it matches my times with any segments I've cycled through? Excuse the noob
-
• #3791
Yeah- I still find the sheer number of segments very amusing.
Once you start the app- it will log your route and any segments you travel on will be included in the breakdown... -
• #3792
Cool, i'll give it a go and hopefully make the move to a garmin soon mainly for the navigation.

The number of similar segments is frustrating. But not as frustrating as the weird ones that seem to have illogicall starts and finishes.
Theres a short Sharp Climb on one of my favourate roads. Real 90 second test of the old ticker. I nabbed the 2015 KOM (big wow), and set a PB on Monday. I analyzed the segment to check my HR, and it turns out the last 15% of the segment was spent freewheeling, as it continues well after the Climb is finished. Bloody annoying. But I dont really want to make a near duplicat.

Starting the app isn't enough. You actually have to hit the record button!
-
• #3795
I lol'd.
Read the Garmin thread to see what you're letting yourself in for.
-
• #3796
That's to punish people who give up, or stop, at the top of climbs.
-
• #3798
Exactly, it's to prove you can climb and recover fast

Paid to ride, closed roads, big bunch.

I was waiting for a mate. ;)
The other week I attacked a New local Climb. One thats on the local climbers competition. I near trashed both my heart and my bike, fighting to the top of the mountain up a 10% gravel, and loose rock, covered trail. Turns out I'd overshot the segment by a full kilometer or so.
Obviously I made a New segment ASAP. But it turns out the XC crew Train there too.
Whaddya mean? Sorry, Monday morning slowness
