  • Exactly what I'll be building the Cindercone as.

I had my 69er Fireeye at the bmx track last week but it wasn't ideal, under geared, big front wheel was a bit of a handful etc.

Plus, we are trying to get a fun wee dual slalom race series on the go up here this summer and as I have no chance competing seriously I'll use the Kona as a bit of a klunker.

  • :D

    I knew you'd like that :-)

  • slaaaaaaack.......would ride tho

  • Dat gear ratio tho O.o

  • Looks like a zero reach stem, and a 69er set up or is it an oddball 46er
The slammed but level saddle angle.
    DH tyres and brakes.
Dem gears, spinny, bike in a what could be a DH play area.
Trials rider having a spaff about the woods for giggles ? nice dropouts, not sure on what the frame is though.
Having done chainless race seeding runs........ i would chuck it down a mountain :) wouldn't fancy trying to spin it anywhere else :0

  • Love the color combination with the lettering on the dt.

  • "Oh, there's a video" I thought.

"Get to see the bike being put to good use" I mused.

    I was not impressed.

  • Someone did the EuroSS champs in the FOD on a Santa Cruz Bullit.
Never actually saw anyone race a dedicated SS DH bike at races (apart from hardtail) but several times it was talked about as viable to try for a shuttle day and could work on some race tracks. Normal bonus of shedding weight and not having to worry about about mech ripping.......seen people rip off 3 mechs in a day then go chainless for race runs :)

  • Reduction in unsprung weight would also be a good thing for a DH bike. On the old SouthernDownhill forum someone had a SS conversion, think it was an Orange of some sort.

  • Right, nobody else post a ss full susser or I'm gonna start searching eBay for a frame.

Quite fancy running a short travel sus frame with the rigid 29+ front end currently fitted to my Fireeye a'la '90s Proflex and Cannondale etc.

  • I used to work at the Specialized concept store in Melbourne, so was obliged to ride their bikes. I had a 'Crave SL', which I rode completely stock (apart from changing the hubs to Hope Pro2s, and fitting some wider riser bars)

I made this little 'product test' video for them, blasting around the local trails on it. Was actually heaps of fun!

  • can't post photo's from this computer :)

Short travel bikes where the swing arm rotates around the BB shell are ace for conversion as you get no chain growth dramas as the chain stay length is constant(fixed) unlike with linkage swingarms.

Kona Cowan and some Coves, oh and there is that Klein URT from i think Bristol :)

  • That starling made me think DMR Bolt but without the linkage.

Bolts build up good and with a tuned coil shock can really take some hammering and DH racing......

  • some long travel wankery.....

aaand an old pic of readers wive....onone 456 summerseason, mucho slack, mucho fun. derailleur is just for chain tension.

  • I'm gonna start searching eBay for a frame.

Have you found one yet :-)
