I don't think ceramic has any positive effect on reliability or durability.
My SRAM bb (also Italian thread) has done fine. I do have an issue with the interface with the cranks. The thread for the self-extracting bolts is also rough and soft, but that's the cranks fault (thanks SRAM).
This shit would never happen with Shimano (probably).

Thought as much, I'll go for steel bearings.
Local shop said they don't have the tool to face the BB shell, might chance it and if things go south I'll have an excuse to upgrade to an Ultegra crank.

Get the frame faced. Skip this and it'll wear any brand of external BB.

Doesn't sound like a good bike shop if they don't have that tool.

Might also ask them to install the headset too, doesnt seem right to fit a chris king using my standard 'tool'...
Happy to be corrected, but I don't think CK will warranty their headsets unless they've been installed by a qualified mechanic. If you've paid near RRP it seems like a false economy not to have it properly installed.

This too, and is definitely a cheaper option if the right sort of gearing is available. I did look into the hub to provide me with a custom TT cassette on a track frame - 7 speeds can be used by butchering some 10 speed HG cassette. Crunching the numbers with all the shipping etc it turned out to be easier just buying a full TT bike that is actually suited to the purpose.

SRAM bb/crank systems are fine - so easy to install and maintain. I don't really see how a non-idiot could struggle with it.
A lot of people who complain about the lifespan of a gxp bb are chucking them when the bearings are perfectly fine, simply because they can't be bothered to do a bit of maintenance. If you ride the bike in rough weather (or any kind of weather), you will probably want to clean out grit and re-grease the whole thing every 6 months. The good thing is it's only a 10 minute job (if that).

I bought the Chris King 2nut off the forum so no warranty in any case.
Had a look at the BB shell last night and the mating surfaces dont look great; much chipped off lacquer, so little flat.
Ok, I'll stop being a tight arse and actually pay for BB facing and headset install. Anyone recommend a shop near E15?

Looks like Sram is about to release road version of 1x (possibly Red)

12-30 or 12-32
11 speedOptions? Really would prefer an 16t to 11t. Think I need a 30 maybe 32 but not really.
-
• #4213
Are you comfortable with the one you have on at the moment?
What the ratios on the 12 30?
-
• #4214
Got 11-28
Don't need 11. Would like a 16t and 30 is needed for steeper stuff so it can be ridden at lower power and higher cadence. -
• #4215
Reckon you made up your mind there.
-
• #4216
I thought dura ace did 12-30 but can't find it now!
Only 12-28. but need a 30.
12-30 doesn't exist.
only 12-32. But don't really need 32!Why no 12-30 or even.
Who needs 11T I can do 30+mph in 50x12 easy. -
• #4217
Some cassette have yet to be released, like the SRAM 11-30.
Whatever chainring you're riding on, get a smaller one to spread the range (and to actually use the 11t cog).
edit: if you're ridin on 50t, then a 48t may be idea.
-
• #4218
Yeah did think about going 48t on the front.
Seen this;
http://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;navigation=1;menu=1000%2C4%2C27;product=115809;page=7;dbp=64Ever used miche cassette? got 13-30 which with 50t could be perfect!
What's the release date on 12-30 sram?
-
• #4219
SRAM ratio may not pleased you, there's no 16t in it.
Miche doesn't have it either;
12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25-27-30
-
• #4220
Long term 48t would be idea, there'll be a slightly smaller jump between the 48t and 34t as well.
-
• #4221
But it's got a 30!
Or go for 13-30 and then there is 16.
Are miche cassettes any good?
-
• #4222
Have no idea, but if they work, they work.
-
• #4223
Scoble recommends them.
-
• #4224
50x13 100rpm is 30mph
More than enough! -
• #4225
IRD have a dreadful rep.
Or get a 120/126mm rear wheel with a screw-on freewheel.
