full bike - rock lobster sscx, might be of interest to someone here...

If people are gasping for cheap 165mm 105/ultegra cranksets to be turned into sscx cnc-bike has plenty.

On the subject of chainsets, I'm looking for something a bit more "bling" for my Nature Boy.
Would it be mental to put a Shimano DXR Crankset on it ?

Super strong and burly, few years back the DXR was cheaper than saint cranks and pretty much the same thing, but shiny and polished, looked great on DH bikes.
According to the 2013 shimano guide, hollow tech II, 68mm bb shell compatible and a 44mm chainline 165/170/175/180mm lengths. -

DXR seems to be double the price of Saint now though

Has anyone used a Tr!ckstuff Exzentriker? If so, is it easy to set up, does it stay in place etc?
I'm currently pondering converting an existing frame, with bsa bb, to single speed and this is cheaper than the Phil Wood version and doesn't really on loctite to hold it in place.

Cheers for letting us know about that. They've got loads of stuff super cheap. Have you any experience ordering from them?

Yes - cumbersome for some (banktransfer), but honest and reliable.

Finally got in the mud for the first time! Drop is a tad too deep, I'm afraid I'll have to go for a MAMIL stem because the steerer was cut before I got it.

Positive degree stems on cross bikes are legit.

Mine. Up for sale, if anyone's intetested.

Just finished putting this together (see hhssscxb in 'current projects for more details)
Needs a half link to gain some mud clearance, then it's fully ready to go. Blasted some gravel paths along the river last night and it rides just how I'd hoped it would.IMG_2759 by Samuel Doman, on Flickr

A heads-up. It pre-dates mountain bikes and cx sportives but the Hell Of the North Cotswolds (HONC) is a great event. A cross bike is ideal and it's doable on one gear. I had 38x18 today.
