threading gear cables through my levers drove me insane, but after more than an hour it happened. However, my friend with 10 speed ultegra and the same problem managed to damage the lever internals, and was kindly sent a replacement by whoever he bought it from...
no specific advice, but interested to see an x-ray of a lever!
