  • Wish Tom Danielson would piss off

  • The Liverpool of the cycling world, next season is his season.

  • There's a widely held opinion amongst US domestic riders that he was doping years before he was anywhere near Lance and USPS but got on the "it was the Euros wot made me do it mate" bandwagon that JV has maintained.

  • Remarkable

  • Watching yesterday's highlights. Brutal. And they get to do it again today!

  • I'm watching too, that climb is ridiculous

    Go Yates!!

  • looking forward to seeing Tony go up on the aero bars.

  • Clip on tt's would be way better

  • Tony Martin, total noob.

  • Alex Edmondson wins U23 Tour of Flanders. First Aussie to do so.

  • Great photo

  • Excited. There's a lot of guff about Wiggo and P-R, and build up to it has been poor (results wise) but if he has a chance of winning he can't ride conservatively, he's going to have to bury himself. Can he pull it off?

    Come on Tim

  • The conundrum I can't work out is this - every other rider in the race knows he wants to win, how does he get away to win? He could do okay in a sprint but realistically for him to win he has to arrive at the velodrome in Roubaix alone.

  • By surprise? I think riders will be wary of him but he won't be heavily marked, or as heavily marked as the more established classics riders. He's going to have to go absolutely balls out, make the selection and then see if he can't attack and then time trial away.

Chances are he punctures early, chucks the bike away then lurks around the rear of the peloton in a strop for plenty of TV coverage thanks to the following camera bike.

  • Your only as good as your last ride and frankly he was rubbish . I can not see him even being in the top ten . Hopefully stannard and rowe will not wait for him.

  • I don't think he's got a chance (lacking classics tactics, will be marked to buggery, plenty of motivation for others to knock him off his perch, can be outsprinted) but I'd bloody love it.

It was fucking hard yesterday on the route - I Froomed and didn't need cobbles to crash - whilst it pissed down in places, the strong winds and sun would have dried it out by today. I forgot how bloody hard the crosswinds can be, which may work in Wiggos favour if he has team mates willing to bury themselves.

  • If he finds himself in the same position as last year with 10km to go I wouldn't bet against him.

  • I don't suppose Wiggins will win because that would be too perfect. But I don't see why he will be any more 'marked' than Kristoff, Stybar, Terpstra, Van Avermaet or Sagan. It's not as if no one ever kept their eye on Boonen or Cancellara and they've not always relied on a sprint.
Either way I hope he enjoys himself since he seems to be able to find disappointment in almost everything he has achieved.

  • Lulz at the last bit. He is a thoroughly odd chap

  • I'd add Boom to that list too. Don't understand why he isn't seen as a contender after his Tour pave win.

The Wiggo speculation is guff, that's the right word for it. Even if he was on stunning form (he's not), had a team totally focused on getting him there (he doesn't) or had the luck of the gods on his side (no sign of it if he does) the whole point of P-R is that it's so unpredictable. Get in the wrong place at the Arenberg, have a crash happen too near you, get a puncture at the wrong moment, hell, hit a cobble at the wrong angle and that's it, game over, you're screwed. It is so hard to predict and it therefore is so hard to target , which is why nobody really bothers, right?

I wouldn't bet against any of those named above but I'd risk a flutter on Wiggins not being on the podium today.

  • Yes that was very well put. All too true unfortunately.

  • Early predictions for today?

Sagan in a group sprint of 5-8

  • All true as you talk as somebody who has the experience of crashing on the asphalt after de kasseien.

    Degenkolb will win.
