Ugh, been browsing a popular message board and might have been tricked by a false http link. Had tabs opening up like no ones business and invisible pop up ads that kept me from being able to close the tabs.
Worried that my mac book pro could have some sort of malware or something funky. Although I know macs can't get viruses it certainly feels like I do. Anything to be worried of?

Macs can get viruses, they are just less common than for Windows machines.

The only one I've had like that had inserted itself as an extension in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, all of 'em at once. Can't remember what it was called, but have a check in your browser settings and look for owt unusual.

Is it worth buying?

New Macbook here. It's right nice

For me no, but depends on how big your tin foil hat is, or how much 'free' software you have that you don't want to call home. It runs free for 3hrs, which is enough to check for malware etc

Ha, yeah.
Forum censors caps so you can't even type a laughing face with a capital "D", but does not censor these fucking smileys. -

Anyone upgraded OS X yet? Does it work? #youdoitsoidonthaveto

Upgraded, works fine, Photos is a good replacement for iPhoto for me so far.

Apparently its a little snappier than 10.10.2 which is good because I honestly started to think my SSD was dying but BlackMagic speed test still reported 500mbps read/write.
My iMac at work needs all the help it can get with it's 5400 rpm spinning platters. -

I might clone it on to an external thunderbolt SSD and boot from that instead.
-
• #7593
sounds like a smart move, SSD is a must have nowadays, especially for someone concerned enough to test speeds with blackmagic, being lumbered with 5400rpm must be agony!

going to be upgrading to mavericks from 10.6.8 over the next week or so.
Got a load of programs/apps which aren't compatible with the move, some classic, a load more power pc, what's the best way to get rid, without having to go through my apps folder and delete/uninstall individually? -
• #7595
I think that is all you can do, however DaisyDisk is a great app for navigating your drive and seeing how each directory is used proportionally. Makes it especially easy for finding local app data that is hidden from you but will remain on your drive after you uninstall those redundant applications.
Well worth the money from Apple Store. -

since I'll be doing mandatory clean up, what are the better disk utilities to clean up my hard drives. Had a bad experience with mackeeper which I'd rather not relive...

My personal laptop has one but work skimped when they got the iMac. Tbh, it only gets used for InDesign, Photoshop etc so an SSD isn't a must have. Still, I'm used to things loading RIGHT NOW!

Is it really that light? And what's the trackpad like? I'm intrigued that the click isn't a click but a vibrate.
