  • I hadn't heard of zwift, and looked it up. That must be the wankest thing ever. Good thing is it keep your 10k crabon bike clean I guess. I really wanted the toddler in the intro video to put it's hand in the spokes.

  • I had one decent KOM

Someone came along on Tuesday and smashed it.

Not with the 40+ mph wind.

    Oh no.

He smashed it going against the wind.

    *sadface*

  • I kinda want a Zwift invite though.

It looks like more fun that staring at a brick wall.

  • I wish. It looks as though he's just a very strong rider.

  • Damn it, didn't get to 1000 suffer score. Had to cut ride short to get back for work. Tough route.

  • I'd be more gutted about being 473ft off Everesting. Nice ride!

  • Damn it, you're right! Gutted.

I'm gonna try it again in September, my mate carried on and finished it, was 42,000feet total and 330 miles.

  • That's an insane amount of climbing, hope someone was there to hand him Jelly Tots at the end.

  • That must have been great.

Perhaps pop back this weekend and polish it off?

  • I wish I had time/money for the logistics, but I don't.

September I'm gonna do the whole route again.

  • Good effort though, certainly taking the path(s) less travelled. Very jealous.

I remember one Audax missing the turn for Penmachno and doing a few km further down towards Ffestiniog before realising and having to turn back (and up), utterly gorgeous that whole area.

I need more Wales in my life.

  • Oh yes, lots of bridleways, lots of hike-a-bike, but the most amazing views. There was a 2 hour push up Pont Scethin (north of Barmouth), that was totally worth it. I'll get the pics up soon.

  • Gabes how do you keep your Garmin alive for that long?

  • Dynamo hub, and battery pack. I've also learnt that the garmin 800 crashes and corrupts activities longer than 24 hrs, so I record one activity for the day, and when I sleep, I clear it and start fresh in the morning. Then before I upload to strava I stitch the .fit files together using https://www.fitfiletools.com/

  • Now that I've heard the term 'Everesting' I feel compelled to face the challenge

  • I'm just getting to the end of the build of my first road bike (Ritchey Road logic) having only ridden fixed with strava I would normally average between 16/17 MPH on a normal 50 ish mile route.

How much faster do you think I'll be with gears and a freewheel, all things being equal and working on the idea that gears are to make you faster rather than life easier. (if that makes sense)

  • needs a muting function

  • No real way of knowing until you get out there. I rode fixed for two years solid and actually found my first few weeks i was slower with gears i guess due to the momentum that riding fixed brings, you should see a good improvement on hills however that is if you are using your gears correctly and spinning for the win, and feel fresher.

On a personal note i would average about 17.2 over a rolling route near me, when on gears my average is 18.5-19 solo but this is obviously very subjective to terrain. Head wind blah blah so i tend not to even worry about average speed as way to many things can factor in.

  • Probably the same as your fixed, until you starting to get used to the bicycle.

  • Just discovered velo viewer... Its pretty cool actually, I really like the 3d segment elevation charts. Yet another bike website to waste time on!

    Does anyone else use it?

  • I use it, and even subscribed to the paid "pro" service. I like the year comparisons and custom graphs, don't care so much for the 3d segment charts actually.

  • Filtering the list of segments you've done is amazeballs.

  • Any else have issue with achievements on Strava? Rode the London Classic yesterday half the course I've never ridden before but achievements showing, yet my mate who I rode with yesterday is showing loads of achievements. Any ideas?

  • You achieved nothing?
