  • ^^Would rep.

  • cheers, fingers crossed

  • Had this for two years with different setups, but I really enjoyed this last one. Just a simple, proper bike. New owner picked it up yesterday.

  • Ooh that's nice, what did you replace it with?

  • It's not a Colnago though.

    Should we be worried...? :p

  • Thanks. Team switched to Trek, so Emonda SLR Project One. I'll post it once I get a proper photo.

  • The Emonda look awfully like a Specialized Tarmac SL4.

  • Initial build:

I wanted to get something together as soon as possible to see how it rides. Just came back from an hour long session around a closed circuit nearby and I gotta say it feels great. Very precise and light, quick to accelerate.

Basically everything north of the toptube is temporary(ish). First order of business is to get a proper bike fit to determine the actual length of the stem I need et cetera. Then I'll be looking out for some second hand Nitto seatpost and stem/cockpit.

SPDs will be replaced with Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals. I also sent my Flite saddle to be reupholstered, white. The idea was to have white contactpoints, but I kinda like the black so I'm not sure.

Any suggestions are welcome of course.

  • That is lovely Tijs! I was also very tempted when it popped up on MP. Gelukkig te groot voor mij :)

  • Any suggestions are welcome of course.

Compact drops look wrong on such a gate of a frame.

  • He asked what I replaced it with.

  • Spent a few hours pissing about with this today, still got the rear guard tomorrow... Give me strength. Still needs some fettling to get guard perfect and the rack spot on. New wheels and tyres too, rear wheel has an issue though, bearing have been replaced but not pressed properly (in lopsided and protruding out), need to check that out tomorrow actually, remove them and refit. Hopefully no damage to faces of hub, will see tomorrow.

  • Look like you need to lower your guard a little on the fork crown, that'll allow you to finally get the line right.

  • Had problems with it rubbing at the front though, right PiTa

  • That's why I suggest lowering it, it mean that the front can be move higher without getting in the way of the brake, and the bottom will no longer be close to the tyres because it's lower.

  • You might be better off using the tabs that came with the rack and putting the front hub bolts through them. Then you'll have an eyelet further forward on the fork ends that will allow you to level the rack without getting in the way of the brake cable or fender.

  • Will give it a try tomorrow, thanks, Lord Scoble of Rack.

@roboto would much rather do it this way if I can, will see how I get on tomorrow.

  • Compact drops look wrong on such a gate of a frame.

Although I don't think they look as bad in the picture below, I get what you're saying and kinda agree with you.

What's the alternative? Track drops with a Jaguar (or Pearl)? I don't really like the look of those and it's fairly uninspired, but they're probably the best fit for this frame. This will also mean a bigger drop, right? I'll have to wait and see what the results of the bike fit will be and take that into account primarily.

And thanks, @Shame! I got lucky I guess, also with the size. Precies de juiste maat, zo lijkt het.

  • that panasonic is brilliant. just stick risers on it and enjoy.

unless you are hitting the track i can't see why you would bother with anything else

  • Has anybody any idea if 28s would fit in a 2011 Madone 4.5? (random question i know, but somebody may have tried)

  • Theres an 'any question answered' thread, maybe try there. They know all.

  • What's the alternative?

Get whatever fits and is comfortable, and drape your jacket over the bars when it's parked so that people can't see them :-)
