Yep. Need to find some time to do both a running and a cycling ramp test, I can do the first at H2, second is trickier as really you need a machine with programmable resistance.
If anyone knows a place that has such machines please speak up.

having a minor confidence crisis since my last long run disaster, and have been thinking of revising my marathon target down to 3:30, but a good speed session last night and a kick up the back side from a training buddy has put me back on track.
I just need to remind myself that I ran 16 miles at 7 min mile pace in the middle of a really heavy training block and was absolutely fine, I've tapered properly for this, so 26 miles at 7min 30 should be relatively comfortable, and even if I blow up after 16 miles then I should be able to drag myself round to beat my PB which is currently 3:30:45 so I'd have to go >9 min miles to miss out on that.

quick question runner friends,
I have started running and would like to know what is a good free android app to track progress, maps, distance, speed and all those lovely things?
I did my very first run outside ever this morning and managed to do the 5 miles to work in 50 minutes but i would like something a little more accurate than google maps and my watch.
Much appreciation in advance

More accurate?! ;)

I did a PB on my long(ish) loop last night, which was a pleasant surprise! I have been doing less running and more cycling and swimming this year, so thought I might have lost some strength. Turns out triathlon training works!

I'm sure strava is as good as any phone based exercise tracking, it does sometimes create shortcuts over small segments, but over 5 miles, it should be pretty accurate...

I got the Magellan watch, it works with your phone and displays pace etc from the Wahoo app.

You rock hats! Thank you!
You use all of them? Which is the simplist? you know me, nothing complex.

I thought that you liked chunky fugly watches though?

Thanks :)
in further reinforcing my good feelings, I've been looking at "peaking" in training peaks and my coach seems to have nailed the taper. Friel talks about a 9% drop in CTL (I'm forecasting 9.2%, TSB going positive 8 days before the race (mine went positive on Monday so 6 days and will be 22 by race day).

you forgot useless as well... digital is so much better than mechanical watches

Yeah, just teasing. The apps will all rely on the phone gps magic so probably much of a muchness for accuracy.

Haha, no I don't use all of them - in fact I don't use any of them as I have a running watch, but those three apps are ones that I know people use. I think they're all pretty simple, whether they're simple enough for you is obviously another matter :)

nor do i to be completely honest, but it assigns a Training Stress Score for each activity I do and upload, based on power for cycling, threshold pace for swimming and heart rate/pace for running, it basically measures how heard you push yourself in each workout. this immediately effects your short term training load (pink line) and in time affects your longer term training load (the blue line) the yellow line is the balance between those two and so represents freshness. the best performances (peaks) theoretically occur when the blue line is really high and the yellow line is slightly higher. my race is at the at the point on the dotted line where the pink and yellow lines spike.
TL:DR - I should be in top form for a race on Sunday so have no excuse not to do well - science sayz so.

Ed, would you recommend Training Peaks (free) for someone running and cycling with heart rate but no power Meyer. My 'training' is for running and the cycling is mainly just for fun but this stuff sounds useful when it comes to prepping and winding down for races which I am awful at.
BSX Insight? Nice. Will be interested to see how that works out.
Multi-sport version?
