    No, I found a NASA archive containing about 7000 very similar Air Ministry an NACA papers, but not that one :-(

  • What are the alternatives to a trispoke?

    A friend of mine isn't convinced: clincher, same sort of budget and ideally lighter than a 'spok.

    It's for a 2014 Felt B14.

    Meaning what; the ~£300 that will get you a second hand H3 clincher front, or the £850 for a new one?

    808FC is about the same weight and price, 404FC is a bit cheaper, >100g lighter and slower

    That's obviously the right answer, but it's boring :-)

    You can get a brand new Cosmic Carbone SL for £250, about 50g lighter than a H3 and only about 2W behind at 50km/h in the old Roues Artisanales test results.

    I sourced one for her last year which she didn't use and eventually sold, as someone in her club has been lending her some deep, full crabon tubs: they're nothing special, but they are light...

    I'm really looking to justify my argument that a tripsoke is FTW.

    Having explained what a tub is (and what her options are if she punctures) and after a quick search of second-hand 808 prices, I think I'm ahead.

  • You have to run stupid skinny tyres on them to keep them fast though, right? So, they might be ok for dragstrip 10s but perhaps she doesn't like how they handle? What distance races are we talking?

  • I don't think she ever actually used it and definitely didn't race on it.

    The tubs she's on now are 22mm I think.

    Mostly 10 with some 25 too. She's slevless/marathon, so encouraging her to try longer distances.

  • Her weight might have a bearing on the choice. If she's a runner and light then having a sail on the front of her bike might cost her more time than it saves if she's struggling to hang on. I'd go for FC or fat HED nowadays if she can afford it and depth based on her weight/confidence holding onto front wheel sail..

  • She's tall, so although she's no biffer, she's not what I'd call lightweight (Rick's missus BTW).

    Hopefully I'll have a spok soon and she can try that, before making a decision.

  • If you assume you've hidden all the cables. So its just the mechs. I bet its not much. Unless you have Di2. My Di2 front mech is like a house brick veiwed Attached to my narrow aero seat tube.

    • possibly reduce q-factor

  • it'll take about 40 squillion hours to do all that, why not just buy a fixed TT bike, or convert your planet x?
