In contention for what?
Chelsea have clearly had the league for weeks, last night just
confirmed it.Lots of competition for the Champions League places, but who really
cares about that? The Championship is so much better in terms of competition for places.
That is not what the pundits are saying. They think Arsenal, the "form team" of the moment, will do it. Chelsea are, apparently, out of form and not capable of dealing with the psychological pressure of the run in. Liverpool are always in with a chance but in reality, we are told, it is Arsenal's to lose.

I'm with the pundits, we've put up a good fight this season but I guess we'll have to settle for the runners-up spot... Maybe next year, eh?

Went to Grimsby this weekend. Watched Grimsby versus Gateshead.
1-0 down at half time.
Incessant chanting of "black and white army" from kick of of second half. Mackreith and the number 4 of Grimsby started getting a hold on the game. Mackreith cut inside on his weaker left and creamed an equalizer.
Town lost their way for a bit, Gateshead muscled them around. More long ball stuff. Their number 5 was suited to that game.
Gateshead got a second.
Linesman and ref missed a few things, some extra time added.
Mackreith dicked their left back again, puts a cross in, is it ? YES IT FUCKING IS. Header back across the keeper. Decent equalizer.match experience = 10/10
As a neutral (ish) a draw was a fair result, I got to shout at the lino for being shit and missing at least 2 handballs, and a quick chat with my BiL about the sudden death of his Dad. -

Remaining fixtures:
QPR away. QPR just beat WBA away. Will be buoyed with confidence for their biggest Derby game.
Man United home. ManU need to win this one and will pull out all the stops.
Arsenal away. A must win game for Arsenal who have won their last 7 matches.
Leicester City away. Midweek clash against a team with a lot to play for. A must win game for Leicester.
Crystal Palace. Home. Having just beaten the Champions, Palace are on a roll.
Liverpool home. A must win game for Liverpool tipped by many as next season's champions elect. Liverpool always perform better in the second half of the season.
West Brom away. A must win for West Brom who will be wanting to bounce back after their unlucky result against QPR.
Sunderland home. Sunderland will have everything to play for and will seek to add Chelsea to the scalp that they took of Newcastle at the weekend.
All looking a bit fraught now.

If Chelsea lose it from here then they will replace the phrase Devon Loch in popular culture when referring to someone or something snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
-

To lose now would be as big a capitulation as Newcastle in 95/6. You'd have to sack Mourinho and have a clear out. Stakes are high for Chelsea, the pressure is on.

I see the last few years as a temporary blip in 30 years of top lols.

Chelsea not winning from this position would be absolutely monumental. As much as we would all love to see it, there's as much chance of that as of Ipswich getting to the Prem.
As if QPR, Leicester and WBA are actually games that need to be met with trepidation.

As if QPR, Leicester and WBA are actually games that need to be met
with trepidation.QPR have a recent history against Chelsea. Questionable penalties and dodgy sending offs have populated recent clashes. It is their biggest game of the year. Not one for complacency particularly given their recent results and new manager effect.
Leicester have everything to play for and will be at home. If we go into that game on the back of two or three defeats, anything could happen.
WBA need the points to ensure safety and will not be a push over. They have taken some big scalps this season including, recently, most recently, Southampton, Stoke and West Ham.
In addition to those three, we have Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U, Sunderland and Palace, all of whom are on a roll at the moment. We can only afford to loose three matches. It is difficult to see three that we have a chance of winning.
