• I'm really sorry guys I feel super shit still. I can make it down but will be pretty useless.

    Does anyone have Charlies number?

  • I have the key I will try to come for 1

  • Did Emily drop off tools? If so can you write a list of what you take so you know what has to come back? Brendan already lost stuff to the LHBPA court building (as have I) and it has to stop! If tools keep getting lost nobody will volunteer them in future etc. I will leave it in your capable hands.

  • Here now. There's kids on the court so we can start at 2. Where is the wood? Might as well try to pick it up. Need phone numbers please mine is oh seven eight oh seven 573246. It would be cool to buy some more sand bags or similar , these are fucked now. How do we access the moneys? Jimmy text me?

  • Massive rep to @atsushi for being the lead today.

    The south east side was lifted up at first go - Hayden, Elliot, Kat, Charlie and I.

    Little bits to tidy up tomorrow but the court is back up!!!

  • Pollo what time ??

  • Further discussions about Herne Hill in the LHBPA forum, members please contribute.

  • NEWS: The Herne Hill court is completely dead after the recent storm.

    Volunteers needed to help Jimmy with clean up. I can do a bit on Sunday morning, if thats any use.

  • Can do Saturday but not Sunday. Any pics?

  • No I mean Jimmy is dismantling it for safety, he says it's beyond repair. It doesnt exist any more.

  • The north face is completely dead. As are 3 of the corner 'assembly units'.

    We could rebuild the corners out of the spare OSB boards IF we can salvage them from where they've been living for the past 18 months (under a tarp on the grass, so probably not!) and use the studding timber I have in my hallway to make new uprights.

    But there's no way enough boards for the north face. We need to replace the net supports as part of that wall, and all the uprights are rotten and have collapsed.

    I have some pics on my phone. But honestly, ask Tim, Charlie and Phil: It's proper fucked.
    With all the screws in the world we can't patch that up anymore.

    Can we talk about this on the LHBPA thread in more detail?

  • there is a meeting tonight at the ship for the lhbpa to decide how much of the remaining bank balance to sink into a permanent court structure at HH.

    There's around 3.4k left in the bank, we're looking at putting around 80% of that into pipe fencing, phenolic ply boards, plexiglass, etc. Hopefully HH would also help financially if we have a plan.

    If you can't make the meeting, let ben Punkture know what you think, and he'll read it out at the meeting.

  • So who's in for a court take down/securing the area this weekend?

  • Sorry to hear it's gone down again, but glad to hear that a more permanent solution is strongly being considered. Unfortunately I am out of town from Tonigh til late on sunday.

  • Meeting is cancelled cause the ship have double booked us and not very many people can make it. Will announce another meeting asap

  • What time Saturday for the court take down or repairs?

  • I can only do tomo I'm afraid!!
    ```
  • What we need now is 15 panels. The existing ones have been ripped up a bit because of the amount of screws that were in them from various patch ups, and weather and water damage. There are some extra 2x4 pieces at the court corner and Jimmy has some too. Some of the supports will need work, maybe turning upside down or flipping around etc so we can re-use them. But most of the panels, the corners and tops especially, are like Cadbury flakes, crumbling into dust.
    Charlie said it is really bad timing with the collapse, and that regardless of whether or not we collectively decide to invest all or most of our savings in HH (which will take time to decide amongst ourselves, and if agreed, would then take time to agree a solution with HH), we should spend some money now and rebuild a similar temporary structure there now, which would facilitate Tim's school programme efforts which are starting next week, and would also mean we'd at least have one court for the summer. I wasnt keen on spending money on this, if there's a more sturdy permanent solution down the road, but on reflection I think Charlie is right, we should try to have something there within the next week, rather than nothing.
    There is a second hand dealer in Peckham that does 18mm 8x4 panels for around 12 quid each. Some are painted on one side. Peter said he has some old pvc banners (like the advertising ones on the track fence) that we could fold over the top lip of the boards and screw them in, so they'd be less prone to water damage.
    Personally I am ok with buying the replacement panels but do not think we should treat them. Why? Because that will take a lot of time to treat them with two or three coats and dry them, and we would also be spending more money on a still temporary solution. I think we could just rebuild and hope that the summer is relatively dry, and the boards will last until Sept or Oct.
    I'll do up a proposal for us when I'm not on my phone and maybe we can have an online vote to decide, so we can get moving on it this week. I'll also do up the long term investment proposal too, but I see them as separate from each other.
  • @lightbluejosh
    Has anyone been in contact with any companies about sponsorship? Chunk etc?
    What is the deal with putting companies logos on the court?
    I haven't been in touch with any sponsors. Maybe @citygent might know the deal with putting logos on the court - HH is covered in different posters and logos around the track edges, so personally I dont think it would be an issue at all, but maybe it would be better to clarify before approaching any potental sponsors.
    How many boards would be needed for a total court rebuild? Can someone let me know the heights and lengths of the current boards.
    I don't think we would need a total rebuild. The east and west (the short) sides of the court are holding up OK, and the moveable side is alright too - maybe one or two of the panels of that side could do with a replacement as they're warping a bit, including the 'gate'.
    The panels are 8 feet x 4 feet, or 2440 x 1220 mm, if you prefer metric.
    The court is 14 panels long and 9 panels wide.
  • Polo players, here is a proposal to spend some money on a temporary court rebuild at HH:
    Please read, digest, vote.
  • The deal with the sponsors and logos on the court ... (originally) you can sell banners like they do for around the track. The track sell them them at £250 per year per banner. And the manufacture of the banner comes out of that price. I sold a couple a few years ago, but then i went to Canada and they did not get printed. We did get the money though. I dont see why the arrangement would change, but if they are doing the whole 'sight line' nag again then that might be a pain. Sorry to hear about the court, seems a shame, but i think that anyone can see how much use we have got and the HHV have got out of the court. Pipes and boards around bottom would be amazing and seeing as their is no checking on court (and is going out of the game for anyone not the ball carrier) this would be perfect. Well done Jimmy for your persistence.
  • That price has changed IIRC, but it's not far away.
    I've already asked my boss who has banners up, he is not looking to put up anymore. But says the polo court is probably a better space for them and would like to see his on there eventually. I will confirm with Peter about this before we chase sponsors but thinking caps on people!
  • Sorry to jump in guys, but we are looking to board a court out. Could you detail the material of the boards that have been disintegrating? I know a lot of it is to do with the wind and damaged from being flipped over in the storms, we are just trying to chose the right material the first time around.
    Old scaffolding frames with better quality boards seem to be the answer?
  • 18mm OSB was used, it was painted with outdoor/weatherproof paint but I don't know the details about that.
