Removing paint from carbon fork.

  • Is this a bad idea? Or am I better off just giving the fork a light sand and painting it?

  • No need to remove the paint, just use some light paper sand to scratch the surface. It will be enough for the new paint to stick. Finish with some water very light paper sand to have a perfect surface.

  • Is this a bad idea?

    Ask @umop3pisdn...

  • I'm going to assume that's a yes, it's a bad idea.

I think I'm just going to leave it as is, I won't notice what colour it is when I'm riding it.

  • I remember reading a blog post of forum post or something from a chap who laboriously removed the paint from an old USPS Trek, stripping it back to bare carbon and applying a clearcoat. It looked ace, but his process was using a razor blade to scrape the paint off.

  • If you're going to repaint it then I'd say just sand it with some wet and dry. Ive done the above^ razor blade method on my forks and it's messy adn time consuming, but it's the best way to get a decent raw result.
