• Hi,
I have recently acquired a Campag Record 10spd cassette. It came in no order and there are tons of rings which need to be slotted in, other than ordering of the cogs I have no idea which rings go in where, has anyone came across an online resource or instructions on how the sprocket should be placed on the body?

    thanks!

  • It's not as complicated as you think. Start with the biggest dog, it only goes on one way, then a spacer, then a cog then a spacer etc, until you run out of spacers. Then add cogs without spacers until you run out of cogs. Then add lockring and tighten to marked torque.

  • Thanks Yoav, however all of the spacers are totally different sizes, plus there are two ultra thin (almost paper) metallic rings which I have no idea where they go! Thanks though man.

  • thanks man, think this solves it for me!

  • I have the little manual you get with campag bits for a 10 speed cassette which gives the spacer sizes and order. If you have no joy with the above link, let me know and I will have a look.

  • Sorry, about that. Obviously, Campag have upped their "pointlessly over complicated" factor since I last took apart one of their 10 speed cassettes, which was about, let me see, 2 weeks ago.

Come to think of it, it was a Veloce cassette, which I carelessly assumed would have been the same as Record. Glad you got it sorted in the end.

  • Veloce cassette spacer are of diiferent width and need to go in a particular order too.

  • You're quite right. After I read the above I dug out the instructions for the cassette (which included both types, and which naturally I ignored), and Veloce spacer order is just as complicated as Record, but in a different way of course. Naturally, I then had to take apart my new cassette and rebuild it as per the instructions. Luckily, I had it correct more or less by accident the first time. After years of Shimano cassettes, my return to Campag was a bit of a shock - who the hell designs cassettes with 4 different types of spacers in one cassette? (well, Campag does, for one).

    You live and learn.

  • Just don't do this. There's two 13t sprockets there....

  • Thanks for the help chaps, @krankers that would be amazing, I would be eternally grateful to you sir. Will PM you now.

    thanks!

Would you believe that some of the cogs are dished to make up for the variation in spacer thickness?

There is presumably a valid reason for such a design?..
