I was up for riding it and back to Norwich in the morning. It's only 40 ish miles from Dunwich.
So, I'm a provisional yes, as the last 3 years something has always come up and I've had to miss it -

4.jdpLast year I compiled a list of the times/costs for the trians homes from Ipswich, Beccles, Bungay, Lowestoft & Darsham with the eye to getting the one that worked the best at the time but ended up getting a lift home instead. I'll do the same this year but with the intention of riding back but it'll entirely depend on how my legs feel.

After 116 miles that extra 40 is what I'm concernd about!

it'll be good to have this information to hand!

Worst case scenario: we crawl back at 10mph and stop every half hour.
What about pirates, zombies, the overnight melting of the polar ice-caps and East Anglia becoming submerged?
But yeah, you'll be fine. And you have escape routes in place.

I'll post it up for all.

I'm doing it as is Him Indoors but we have a couple of new-to-riding-and-riding-any-kind-of-distance-peeps riding with us, too.

I'd like to say I'd ride back from Dunwich but I bet I'll be dead after the ride!
There's a train station in Darsham which is about 6 miles out of Dunwich which could be of use. Looks like it's about a tenner back to Norwich.

Or a Chris King R45 - as one customer put it, 'it's like being chased by an angry wasp.'

From reading a bit about the event, it sounds like trains from there are infrequent and difficult to be one of the 5 people of several thousand who will get their bike on board. That might just be if you're trying to get to London though.
There's always Lowestoft. Also, @jdp will be sharing his list of escape routes at some point :)

I did it last year. I got more rained on than I ever got rained on before. Which was fine.
By FAR the worst bit was waiting for the coach back to London. Had a little swim and stuff but once you've done that it's like the evacuation of Dunkirk except there's no little boats. And the sound of a whole row of cubicles filled with guys having their morning bowel movements still haunts me.
So yeah, hire a van or cycle to Norwich. Don't hang about. -

Taking a van with sleeping bags might be an idea, but seriously I do not recommend driving after that ride.

Darsham can be a nightmare, I recommend either getting a lift/riding back or leaving a car at Dunwich.
Also be aware if you're getting the train down to London that, depending on what time you're travelling down, the bike bit fills up very quickly. -

I got a coach ticket. Hopefully see some of you while riding, last year I paired up with some random people and it was just really fun. The ride gets much nicer after all the club riders have fucked off into the distance.

Some people do seem to forget it's not a race although I have to admit to feeling a little smug when I passed a member of the Dulwich Paragon on my single speed!

Just had a listen on youtube - my obnoxious nature makes me crave that noise!

This is turning into a logistical cauchemar. Head down to London early, ride back to noz at whatever speed doesn't kill us is rather seeming like the most faff free option still!
This year's DD will take place on the 5th and 6th of July.
As a few people have mentioned that they might be up for doing this, and I'm game, I thought I'd start a thread to make some plans. Team Noz. We could share biscuits and stuff.
For my part, I don't want to go fast, but just enjoy the experience and see what happens, have a bit of an adventure. I was chatting to an acquaintance from hereabouts about it and he seemed intrigued by my suggestion that we might do the ride, have a bit of a chill on the beach, and then ride back to Norwich afterwards. I've never ridden 193km in one evening before, so I'm not sure about another 53km the following morning. But worse things have happened at sea, I'm sure (scurvy and cannonball injuries to name but two).
Another option, I suppose, would be beg/borrow/hire a van (and probably a car if there's more than three others involved) drive it all to Dunwich with bicycles on board, get the train into London and then ride back... orrr some similar feat of logistical wonderfulness that might require a team meeting and some diagrams in advance of the day.
Thoughts?
