  • Something that crossed my mind the other day, bear with me on this...

    When a car is mid-corner and another one overtakes (or is just in-front) you get an aerodynamic stall, where loss of downforce occurs due to interrupted airflow over the front wing. This makes life difficult for the car behind.

    I wondered if any teams design their aero packages to be offensive in order to disrupt near-by cars. Technically they could design them so that the area of messy air behind (and around) the car is larger than is necessary to make overtaking cars work harder. This would probably increase drag, though.

  • This happens already enough for drivers preferring to slow down and stay a few meters further behind. That's why they introduced DRS or passes would have been happening almost only in the pits.
