Road Wheels & Road Wheel Recommendations?

They do look very nice indeed but are £20 more than Archetypes. Maybe they're worth it though.

They look good, and quite distinct compared to other deep-ish alu rims. Super-wide, too. A 28mm tyre comes up huge and super-plush.

My girlfriend's bike ( B'Twin Triban) has just had its rear wheel nicked - any suggestions for a 650c road wheel? On the cheap side.

Can't see to see any anywhere and I'm generally confused about the differences between 650 A/B/C (rim width right?)

I lost count on the amount of high end wheels whose hubs is still in perfect nick from customer's bicycle that we have to scrap because of not being able to source compatible rims without spending too much money.

Miche used to have some decent 650c wheelset for sales, but don't think it's available nowadays.

Thanks! I did see the Sheldon page but gave up at the "so the nominal 650 mm designation is now more theoretical than practical" bit in confusion!

TL:DR - 650b is the largest, and 650a is the smallest (by a small margin).

Custom build would be best for racing. Easier to just replace a spoke or so.

So I'd bet they'll get broken before they wear out.

Are the fulcrums hardy? I know i'll put them into potholes at 35+ and other things.

Hah, was looking at Strada Wheels, and found this under their Velocity A23 wheelset;

All day comfy, the Velocity A23 was a popular rim for Strada, QC issues mean it has been replaced by the DT Swiss R460.

Big fucking surprise.

Need some wheelset suggestions. For my partners bike - she loves it (an 80's Peugeot step through) but it's in need of new wheels. I put a set of my light n wide road wheels in there and she took it for a spin. Maybe a mistake as now she wants fast wheels. Remember this is a step through that gets commuted on. I figure what she liked was the plush ride and lighter weight plus nicer tyres. They just felt zippier. I don't mind spending a bit so it's hand built VS OTP. Question though, a 130 spaced hub is a very tight fit so 126mm or even 120 is probably the right spacing for the frame. Also, currently running a 5 speed screw on freewheel. Happy to change to freehub.
Lazy thoughts are Hplus TB14 laced to something novatec - not sure which.
or Silver Mavic A319 - although not that light.
Other options? Budget is £50 - 200... Thanks in advance

Friction or indexed shifting?

Friction! Currently running a simplex system with stem mounted shifter. Thinking of changing to a tiagra 8-speed derailleur and setting it up as a 1 x 7 - still friction with the limit stews set
( just what I have as spare parts etc.) just unsure whats possible with the rear spacing.

If the spacing is 126mm, then just buy the Shimano RS11 wheelset*, with some change left over for a 7 speed cassette (+spacer) and chain, cassette should be about a tenner, and fiver for chains.

*Shimano RS010 should be slightly cheaper to get a set for under £100

They look OK, although being fussy the hubs are black and the wheels look a touch modern.
I shall try my rear RS501 in there to check fit first.

For the money, it's hard to beat the Shimano budget road wheel, only "classic" looking one I can find are these;

Yep, you are right. The open sport/tiagra option is good too, might go for that as they suit the bike a bit more. Might also invest in something nicer than Paselas to go on them. Is it Clement that gets good suppleness ratings?

So far I found the Clements surprisingly tough and not lacking in grip, although not used it in the wet since it's on a summer bike.

Early day to tell TBH, the Paselas are already decent tyres and honestly it's plenty for everyday riding in London.

You'd hope so, but If I remember right, they come up a bit heavy and weren't that well reviewed. If you want hope hubs, you're probably best off sorting your own build out.

At some point I wish to upgrade the Groupset on the commuto x bike to shimano hydraulic shifters and 11spd mechanical. My Hope Pro 2 is not the 40t version so can't take 11spd cassette. Am looking to get a new set of Hope hubs, probably 32 hole. What rims would the hive mind suggest? Am thinking possibly Stans Grail or the Hope carbon rim - would like something that would work with a 30mm tyre (possibly even bigger) they need to be able to take my weight and sometimes heavily laden panniers too.

Any suggestions?
