I would buy a rolex or something different that is more affordable.
Such a blatant copy feels wrong on every level for me, there are so many other watches to choose from after all. I won't be able to afford a rolex for a good while but will still hold out for the real thing if it ever happens (although likely just get other watches) -

I have the Ocean 1 Black (albeit with the added ceramic bezel) and there's no doubt it's a "copy" although i think, as long as it's not got the Rolex name stamped on it, i prefer "homage".
I'm not sure i share the same opinion as you though about it being a negative. I know it's a copy; i know the movement is inferior and the rest of the materials aren't quite as refined. I don't kid myself that it's the real deal. This allows me to use it as an everyday watch which I can chuck about and not have to worry about the servicing costs or the odd scratch or dent.
I own an Speedmaster and will soon own a Rolex Explorer too. These are saved for high days and holidays where I can treasure wearing them.
Best of both worlds...

Such obvious copies erk me a bit too. I do like the black one that Joe has and the ocean military is hawt.
I quite fancy an explorer now... Will probably just get another seiko instead.

Good angle, certainly an homage rather than a 'fake' and it's still a good quality watch, my super compressor looks a lot like the far more expensive longines which i definitely can't afford!

My perspective is that the Ocean Vintage is an homage to a watch that was produced during the seventies, and is now 10-14k.
i.e. it's not easy to find one, and if you do it's unlikely you'd (as Soul says) wear it daily.
I would like a 1655, but a) I can't afford one at the moment and b) I'd like to find one from '76 which is going to take a while, so c) the Steinhart will be fine in the meantime.

Also, don't forget it's Neil. Something will be wrong with it or broken.

You mean "Canadian"?

IMO there is difference between that and say a modern sub copy. I'm not really sure why, I guess it's because a modern version of an old design is obviously not the real thing whereas with a new one someone might mistake it for the real thing. Although again I'm not really sure why that should matter.
I always liked the Shark Diver(?) the fifty fathoms tribute/copy. One was up on USebay for about £850 the other day... very tempted.

u
all this talk of divers I had to get one and I did but sadly it's the US so it will be a wait of a few weeks. it's a fairly basic vintage auto and not a fauxlex but nice for sure- ss all over, eta 17jewel auto movement, 38mm case excluding crown, 20mm strap width, great chunky pointer minute hand, and anyway everyone needs a diver in their collection right!?
one of the darwils will definitely be for sale! -

Id like to buy a vintage secondhand Omega or similair ladies watch as a gift for someone. Solid gold would be nice but my budget is around £500.
Any suggestions? -
• #15790
Or places to look?
-
• #15791
Do you have any particular models in mind?
You'll struggle to get anything in solid gold for £500...
-
• #15792
at that price you're looking at 9ct and devilles only i would say

Just had a hands one with a Pebble Steel... Very tempted...
-
• #15799
I have a Pebble Steel and it's great but i only use it for one thing; football scores when i'm at a game. The rest of the time, it sits in my watch box whilst i wear nicer things.
Having said that, they're a lot more useful on Android so if you don't use iOS, you may end up wearing one more often...

Posh Seiko... It has a porcelain face with hand painted indices. I like the clean-ness.
Was really hot on this Omega that sold on here recently and decided I fancy something oldish, cheapish and from a brand with a decent rep for approx £200 or less. Suggestions?
